Hi guys,
It really does shock me that such a great tractor has such a fragile steering design.
The steering column is strong enough to do the job it was intended for.
When you don't repeatedly subjected it to the force of pulling your body up onto the tractor, it will work fine.
I have repaired steering wheels on all kinds of vehicles, including full sized trucks, that had been damaged the the same way.
Yes, MF would do it's customers a service by having a warning in the operators manual, and a placard, for those who don't consciously realize repeatedly yanking on something, will eventually loosen it up.
Unless you have a health issue, or physical disability, I don't think you really need to add grab bars. You can hold the wheel to balance yourself, as you mount the tractor. Just use your legs, not your arms. It simply requires a conscious decision, not to pull on the steering wheel.
I could write a list of things I would prefer they made stronger. But, I also understand in order for this tractor to be affordable, there is a limit. Make this part stronger, the budget for another part must be cut, or the price of the unit must be increased.
Unfortunately, no matter how strong you build something, it is still going to have a weakest point. And, someone will wish they had built that part stronger.
