Busy with work, farm chores and theater auditions. Can't keep running back to you every time you wonder off track. You will laugh about lawsuits and common sense and think it can't happen to you. Ask somebody that it's happened to. I had one kid out of the bunch with no sense of self preservation or danger. Next step was to tie him up in the house when ever equipment was being used outside. He would bolt from the house and run behind or beside any and every operating machine. Countless times I ensured he was in the house with his Mother but would be in the danger zone minutes later. A sound ***** beating and hauling back to the house would last 5 to 60 minutes. He just never got it through his head. As for safety equipment in general I wouldFor example like to have pto shield haters attend the scene where somebody was wrapped around a shaft. The sight , the smell and the sounds of the family crying will never leave you. Ask a rural firefighter, paramedic and cop how often they find pieces at farm incidents and how rough it is.

It's obvious that you don't want to answer the question at hand. More then likely because you can't. In case you weren't aware, a conversation works much better when both parties are willing to ask and ANSWER questions.

If you want argue the reasoning, I will galdly give you the number to a woman in our church who backed over her youg son w/ a mower.

Sorry the kid got ran over but whose fault was that? Wasn't mine or the other thousands of owners who are now inconvenienced due to the woman's mistake. What really irks me about RIO is that there is no easy way to turn it off so that an owner has the freedom of choice to use it or not.

I disabled my RIO with a jumper on the switch. I have a lot of backing up to do when I mow.

I think the real reason for RIO is not safety as much as a defense in court.

Did you do this on an X595?

Yes this was on a x585 machine.

Also this wedge keeps all safety wiring in place ,you can use it or not .
Forgot to say ,punch or drill a hole on the other end of wedge ,then attach a string and hang wedge around the hyd lift levers.
Then when needing to use the wedge it hangs on the tractor. Just leave enough string to use the wedge under switch.
When using the wedge , the backup lights still come on.

I have the "moral highground" too.. A very close relative of mine now has 1.5 feet after following a riding lawnmower and getting backed over. That said, the RIO does NOT help the situation at all. If it was placed on the rear fender it could be of some use, as it would force you to turn around to activate it. As it is on the dash, it is less than a safety device, it is an UNSAFETY device. It focuses your attention forward to find and activate the button.. It is still up to you to use your brain and look rearward, but if it was on the back fender along the centerline of the mower you would BE LOOKING REARWARD. Sure you can get acclimated to using the RIO but it does not help you look rearward at all. So mark me down in the column that the RIO is a POS that should not even be on the mower, unless it is on the rear, as it makes the mower less safe to use. If you think I am passionate about this, you would be correct.

Not to be too technical, but the RIO switch doesn't prevent something or someone from being run over. It prevents the blades from turning while they get run over. Thus, they don't get sliced and diced, just crushed. Not to be funny about it, but it still takes a brain to be engaged.

That's the way I see it. You have to keep one hand on the steering wheel and use the other hand to lift the switch before you start backing up so looking behind you during all this is a struggle for some. Once you start backing up and let up on the reverse pedal just a little too much there goes your mower deck turning off. Then you have to push the button back down to reset the whole thing and start over. I've said it before and I'll say it again if they really wanted you to look behind you they could have put a push button on the fender to force you to turn around and look behind before backing up. The whole thing was most likely done to satisfy some lawsuit, not sure if the gov't had anything to do with or not but if that sounds good to some of you fine.

Not looking behind you when backing up is no different from backing up your vehicle without looking behind you, it's just plain doesn't make sense.

I've seen people riding infants on their laps while mowing, even saw a woman sitting on top of the seat back with a baby in a baby carrier in the seat. You can't fix stupid no matter how hard you try. I wanted so bad to turn around and go back a tell her how dangerous that was but I knew it would be a fruitless effort.

Our 2 sons stayed inside while anyone was mowing no ifs ands or buts. Only have one son left with us here on Earth but that's a another story but it wasn't because of lawn mower that's for sure.

Ever seen a lawn mower launch a golf ball or a Black Walnut, there's many ways of getting injured or killed by a lawn mower.

Did you do this on an X595?

I did the jumper wire on my 345D, and then on my X748SE when I traded the 345D.

I cut the jumper off on the 345D when I traded so the RIO works again. I'll do that if I ever sell the 748 too.

As far as I know the X748SE is nearly identical to the X595. Can you tell me exactly how you did it on yours.

I also have a GX345 which I put a jumper wire on, but with the 595 I don't have access to the back of the ignition as with the 345. Is it basically done the same way? Ok let me know.

Thanks
