How to ship tractor from Fla to Maine?

If you're going to save some money and buy used.... it would be nice to actually save the money, instead of forking it over to a shiping company. The more I think about this, the less attrative it seems.

Don't they sell tractors in, or near, Maine? Unless you have a relative in the hauling business, whatever price you get for shipping is going to negate any good deal on the purchase price. I would run from this deal and find something closer to home.

A fair question about buying used and from out of state. The best price I got from a Maine dealer was $10500 new for the same set up. Add 5% sales tax and you get $11025 vs $8950 delivered for the rig with 50 hours and two years left on the warranty. I personally can not see buying new under these circumstances. I know there are out of state dealers selling new for $1000 less than one here. but I would still be facing the transportation costs. Isn't a 50 hour old machine basically new? Thanks for all your replies.

No,.. a new machine is basically new, and a used one is used. You will loose out on the financing which couls save you nearly 1000 dollars. Why is this used one for sale so quick??
Did he put the wrong fuel in it? Did he bust an oil line and fix it without visible probles? Did it roll? WHY is it for sale??? Most likely because they bought the wrong tractor in the first place.
I have WAY too bad of luck and am WAY too suspicious to put myself in that situation. Can't you save sales tax in NH or something.
You'll probably be alright either way, but I still wouldn't like it if it were me. 10% is not enough to save.

Rogue has a good point here. I haven't read all the post on this thread but have you 'seen' this tractor? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Think about it a while and check around.

Granted u can save some$$ but you are talking about a tractor u never saw or driven. i would be very sure of the machine before u buy it. is it from a dealer ? or a private party?

I'm not sure how much time you have to investigate this, but I've had good luck lowering my costs by piggybacking on a classic car transporter. Check out some of the classic car sites and click on transportation links. In my case, I needed something brought to Vermont from Nebraska...and found someone transporting a car from Utah to Maine. So my costs were cut significantly AND he delivered to my door!
