I missed your original post 4 years ago and have had a hard time stirring up my Smuckers 100% pb. Why didn't I think of that? I wonder if a paddle bit will work ok?

Not positive on the paddle but but I tried several and the dough hook worked the best. I don't see the paddle working well.
Around here, hand held dough hooks are plentiful in the thrift stores.

This might work on your hand held mixer

Our mixer came with a dough hook that I don't think has ever been used.

Look, Bird, you like peanut butter, have a dough hook and an electric drill. Maybe this is a sign? :D

I'm the OP on this and have an update worth noting. The Costco 100% peanut butter I use is smooth. No crunchy and I like crunchy. Now, you can buy Smucker's 100% PB that's crunchy but it's not always available.

So, we got some jars of dry roasted unsalted peanuts on sale and an extra two empty jars to handle the combined product overflow. We split the Costco creamy PB into three jars so we had space, got a plastic bag to smash the nuts in and a kitchen hammer. I smashed the nuts into pieces and added them to the plain PB. Actually starting the jar with crushed nuts first and then layering back and forth up to 3/4 full with smooth PB worked the best. Then, hit it with the electric drill to mix. We found the more added peanuts the better. Go crazy. Commercial crunchy PB is woefully lacking in added nuts and too much salt.

So, I now have crunchy PB to my specs, PB and strawberry sandwiches at my command and a smile on my face.

Note: when you crush the peanuts, put in a big zip-lock bag and whack away. Do it without the contained bag and 98% will be on the floor and 2% somewhere else. You don't have to zip the bag shut and start with smaller amounts.

I live on crunchy PB, tv dinners, popcorn and metamusal. I have never used the stove or oven in camper, not even sure if they work?

Maybe the term tv dinner belongs on the grampa tell me about the old days thread.

I like your idea but it defeats my goal of spending as little time in the kitchen as possible.

That's the beauty of this. Get a portable drill and head outside. Problem solved. :)

Love peanuts, love PB but hate crunchy PB. Myself and my family grew up on what we called "Gooshy-Goshy" sandwiches. GG is made by a healthy scoop of PB (Jiff preferred) in a cup. Add about 2tbs. of maple syrup and mix well. But don't dilly-dally. The mix will harden and tear the bread if you wait too long. Spread over bread and enjoy. I prefer to dip my GG sandwich halves in a glass of milk. Been that way since 1956. :licking:

A friend And I lived out of an Econoline one summer, traveling the Western US. We bought a big tin bucket of cheap peanut butter and whatever lilly white bread was on sale. Between Las Vegas and Needles, CA, it was hot enough that we could "pour" our sandwiches. So heating up the peanut butter to 100 -115 F or so might eliminate the need for a drill...

Since I mixed a batch of peanut butter with grape jelly and honey, it ain't bad cold, but I like to warm it up, which also thins it, and yesterday I was just using it for a dip with my Tostito Corn Chips. Mighty tasty.

You guys like peanut butter a whole lot more than I do... there's a full jar and a partial in my cupboard which hasn't moved in at least a year and a half. It is all natural though, I believe that it says "Refrigerate after opening."

If you really want something which will seem like it's from the past try organic Catsup. It has sugar instead of high fructose, and I can actually taste the tomatoes.

I remember in the elementary school lunchroom being served a dollop of a peanut butter & honey mixture. I suppose it fit into one of the food groups somewhere? Surplus items from USDA. One of the lunchroom ladies (gotta be in her 90s now) lives nearby so maybe I can ask her the professional mixing method.

Growing up we normally used honey on peanut butter sandwiches and jam on toast. PB&H not PB&J for me. Best when the Hiney saturates the bread a little.

EDIT. Honey saturates the bread :confused2:

Here's another something Learned that makes a big difference in mixing peanut butter quickly and efficiently. When starting out, and before using the electric drill, I often have to use a butter knife to dislodge the solid mass at the bottom of the jar.
On a lark, before I mixed the last batch I put the sealed jars in warm water and let them sit for maybe an hour and keeping the water warm. The PB was much softer and easier to use. The warmth of the water made mixing much easier.

Also, know that we store our PB from the store upside down until needed. That way, the oil is on the bottom of the jar and is easier to mix. Especially so since the warming of the PB before starting makes it easier as well.

I only buy the Smuckers 100% peanut butter. It has just 2 ingredients, roasted peanuts and less than 1% salt. I alternate buying the creamy and crunchy but usually prefer the taste of the crunchy. Most peanut butters drain off the expensive peanut oil and sell it and fill your jar with cheap palm or soybean oil. This removes some of the peanut taste from the butter too.

Don't waste your money buying the "organic" marked ones because the "unorganic" peanuts are just as healthy and tasty.

In my drill I use a long allen wrench like A/C men use to remove fan blades and squirrel cages and it works great for stirring up the peanut butter to mix the oil evenly with it. Then I store the jar upside down and it doesn't need much mixing the next time.

A little Freudian slip there?

I've been eating Smucker's Crunchy for about 10 years now. I bought a manual peanut butter mixer from Amazon that works ok.

I just put a cheap electric mixer with dough hooks on my Amazon wish list, now it will go quicker. Thanks to this thread.

There's more I've learned to make mixing easier. First, store the peanut butter upside down while in storage. That way, it's easier to mix because there isn't a dry spot at the bottom of the jar.
Second, before you open the jars, put them in warm water for an hour or so. The wrmed PB mixes much easier.

OR - how to make a HOLY MESS in 15 seconds or less. I carefully put the "implement" in the rechargeable drill.

Into the big 'ol jar of peanutbutter. Hit the trigger. An almighty "WOOOSH". It pulled ALL the PB out of that jar and flung it all over the kitchen.

Guess the "implement" was not a dough hook. DUH...........

A little Freudian slip there?

I knew that meaning, but floating around in what little is left of mhy brain was 'female donkey". Looked it up but NO. Still think there is a word somewhat similar for that last definition.
