Tilapia only eat filamentatious algae and do a fine job. They breed faster than rabbits and if you dont have cold weather to kill them off, I am sure they would take over your pond. We put 4 juvenile pairs in our pond one year and there was hundreds of full grown ones that died in the fall when the temps got below 60F. They can be a good cash crop from your pond if you can seine them out. They wont help against the algae that just turn the water green though.
