How to stop bird taking a dump on yer tractor

When the sweet corn first comes up through the ground Starlings have a field day pulling out the tender shoots. So in the past we have used pieces of plastic reflective tape to ward them off until the corn could get better established.

Maybe this same idea might work for you. This tape is available at most garden centers and is relatively inexpensive. You can hang it just about anywhere and the slightest breeze makes it dance in the wind.

Bird.... I'm glad you finally defended yourself. I was a little worried about this one...

I have a funny story regarding birds and poop. We live on the water and anchor our boats out front during the summer months. My neighbor anchored his 20ft. boat with a full canvas top the first summer he moved in. The seagulls loved it. So, each morning before he went to work he would lean out the window with his 22 and a scope and put a round slightly over the heads of the seagulls trying to break their habit of nesting on top of his boat. So, every morning I would wake up to a crack (his 22)..... squawk, squawk, squawk (the birds flying off).

Every morning ...... Crack... squawk, squawk, squawk.

After a few weeks of this I was finally awakened to "Crack-Tink...D*MN! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif..... squawk, squawk, squawk. All I could do was laugh because I knew exactly what he had done. Later that week he had to replace his canvas and some of the framework. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The best solution that we have found is a small cheap transistor radio playing 24/7 seems to keep the birds and otters out of our boats. Sure beats taking a chance of putting a hole in something as important as a boat or a tractor /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

Oh... and as far as my neighbor, I never talk about this story..... except when we are at neighborhood parties or any other time I can have some fun with him....

Isn't that the truth.

Try the owl. You can get them pretty cheap and they will scare off tweety birds.

If there a lot of crows around it can backfire though. Crows hate owls and vice versa. There is a reason that a bunch of crows is called a "murder". They may swarm your owl.

A plastic owl on top of somthing black and flappy is one way to attract crows to shoot them.

I have a 18'x18' cheap tarp I picked up in a cheap tool store, similar to "Harbor Freight" for about $12 US, and you can get 50' of nylon clothesline for about $5 to thread through the eyelets and snug it up around the tractor. I have a barn, but would use this if I had to leave it outside.

I use a silver colored inexpensive tarp on mine. Keeps the birds off but the spidys and other little critters sure like it up under that tarp where it's nice and dry............... I hook it on with bungees tho rather than ties it down, that way it can move some in the wind but it won't blow off............
