How to stop cars from turning around in my driveway

Does anyone think the chain idea with the Might Mule would work? In theory, it seems like it would work well. It will lift 300lbs. The chain wouldn't weight nearly that much.

No. They're not made to work that way. They're made to swing a gate on an arc. They don't lift anything, they swing that weight on a pivot point.

There are rolling gate openers, but they're also expensive.

Install two old gate posts that are falling over! Lean a rusty old gate up against one of the gate posts and set it so that it looks like it will fall over at any second. Dig 2 really deep muddy puddles as close to road as possible. Don't leave any room to pull in. Hang large rusty sign (made from old fridge door or car hood) and warn people that the Rottie is not on a chain no more. Put a Sensor on driveway and attach it to a really loud speaker that plays sound of someone firing a shotgun. Park a really old beat up pick up truck at end of driveway with smoke coming out from under hood . Start a rumour in town that the crazy old guy on the corner don't want nobody trespassing on his property!

So far this has worked for me!

Get a deep cycle battery, and a 12v winch (w/ wireless remote) and solar panel from HF. Put all that in an enclosed post on one side with the solar panel on top. Attach the cable to a matching post on the other side of the drive. Use the remote to raise and lower the cable. You could hang streamers or something on the cable so people would see it.

This could also be accomplished with matching 100+HP tractors and a large skidding winch...

I have a mile long gravel driveway. I also have an inner and outer gate. People pull in and turn around - outside my outer gate all the time. I can't see them, I can't hear them, they do no damage. Why should I care. Doesn't look like they have done any damage to your driveway either.

Life is too short - get a hobby.

The first time someone bumps the chain in the UP position, you're out one mighty mule. ;)

I am looking for a way to keep people from turning around in my driveway. This happens all the time. One person actually drove in my lawn to turn around and put ruts in my grass. I put signs up and also put a split rail corner on each side which didn't seem to help. I was going to put a gate up with a mighty mule gate remote opener.

Then I thought that it would be less invasive to put a chain across. I don't want to have to move the chain every time I need to enter the driveway. If I could put a wooden post on each side of the driveway and connect the mighty mule gate opener on the one side, I could use that to lower and raise the chain. I would mount the Mighty Mule vertically and put the chain on the end. This would raise the one end of the chain up and down which would be enough to run over it when it is down. Here is a picture of my driveway entrance. I am open to other suggestions.

I put a chain across my drive out on our remote rural property. 10 years later I got a trailer for my tractor and realized I couldn't pull the Suburban and the trailer off the highway because the chain was only set back far enough for the Suburban + 10'. The trailer is 18'. Yikes!

So be sure to consider that kind of situation if you decide to gate or chain. Consider deliveries, your family, different scenarios, etc...
