How to test for diesel

One real good way to be able to tell diesel from gasoline is to spill some on your work clothes and place the work clothes in the washing machine when the wife is washing something else. I guarantee you will be able to tell the difference from 100 feet after that. The only thing I have found that will almost remove the odor of diesel fuel from clothing is simple green.

I'm glad this is up - just got into the same situation. Thought I knew which was which, they were marked, but have now spaced. Was going to pour two puddles on sand and throw a match in each, as the smell is too close - can't tell by smell oddly enough, maybe because of the cold.
