How To Use A Seed Drill

/ How To Use A Seed Drill #21
as far as speed the openers and shape of the openers are the key there,

double disk I would say up to 8 mph 5-6 best, single disk up to 6 mph,( 3-5 best) tool type openers, (no disk, a chisel like point), depending on shape up to 6 more likely (4 to 5).

a lot of it depends on throw, the opener throws the soil, and if it throwing so much that it is covering the furro next to it you going to fast,

set the drill by the chart or the book to start with, one usually needs some extra to keep the drill feeding as there is some need to keep the cups filled and most drill have a flat box bottom, thus one need some extra to keep the drill cups full when the box empties,

on our drill there is a plat form one can stand on, and if we wanted to run a drill dry, we have one person with a wisk broom, (no agitators) , and sweep the seed back and forth to keep the cups full at the very end, ours need about a bushel of seed to keep the cups flowing, at the end,

one may have to get creative to finish out the seed box,

a shop vacuum makes quick work of cleaning out the seed box,
