$800+ for scrap metal sounds like fun to me...wish I could stumble across something like that! I'd find some way to get it to the scrap yard, I guarantee that...

i'm working on it... but it's 7500#- OH, wait, now 6500# on an unplowed road. Later this winter there will be a grapple skidder and log crane nearby...

This spring I started picking up junk off land my company manages and hauling it for scrap. At first I felt like one of Sanford's sons, but this fall when I realised I'll need to declare it on my taxes I changed my tune. If prices stay up next summer I'll be able make enough on a Saturday to write off a set of torches, and eventually upgrade to that 3/4 ton dump which I so desperately want-

ER, need.:cool2:

I'm missing something. How do you get a 6" X 3' piece. out of a 31" diameter pipe? ~S

Sorry, need to learn the English language.:confused2:

He needs them cut tangentally the length of the pipe, so he can use them like bricks.

Demo saw. They're used to cut both cast iron and ductile iron pipe. They run like a chainsaw but have a 14 inch abrasive wheel. Check your local rental center. Safety Glasses With Side Shields are a must when using these. Don't cut without them on your head. One inch thick will take some blades.

Note, All cutting wheels aren't equal. Welding suppliers & construction suppliers usually sell good ones. You want a commercial grade that says Cast Iron & Ductile Iron and is marked for the RPM rating marked on the saw. Usually the ones sold at Lowes and hardware supply outlets sell the ones for electric chop boxes and these aren't what you want

Actually, I guess what your saying is that he's looking for 'longitudinal' segments, 6" wide, by 3' long! Seems to me that the cutting cost, by whatever means, would out-value the resulting product..........Hey I'm not a language expert either! Smash it up, scrap it, and buy what you really need!:laughing::laughing:

Ditto on the demo saw.

Ditto on the demo saw.

Wouldn't the blade cost be prohibitive? 72" of cut, thorough 1" cast iron pipe wall, for piece number 'One"! And that's assuming that he's got them 'chunked up' in three foot lengths! Just doesn't sound cost effective.~S

Ditto on the "sell it for scrap".

I've been using my demo saw more and more lately for cutting different metals, no way your gonna cut very far through 1 inch cast. If you try better start with a big box of wheels.

That's a monster pipe! Any idea what it was used for? Metro water main is the only thing I can think of.

JB.
