Out of sight, and if seen, harder to get to than one somewhere else.

Put a locked gate at the end of the driveway, visible from the road. Thieves are lazy.

My vote would be for IP Address cameras. They work great if you have a high speed internet connection. I have them and love them. You can get the the type with night vision, color, movable and just about anything else you can think of. You can view them on a phone or computer also. If they are set to motion detect, they will vibrate your phone to alert you and you can see whats going on and call the police if need be. The idiots steeling will not know anything till its to late. Like I said, I have them and love them.

I leave my garage unlocked with the light on . I have a motion detector and a recording . After about 30 seconds there is a distinct sound of a pump shotgun going " click ,,,,,, Click "

There are a number of game/trail cameras with cellular options to send photos to email, cellphone, etc... (see link for examples)

They all require monthly payments for service.

Take some important ignition items from a tractor so it isn't started easily. That gives you time to alert the authorities while the thieves try to get it started. However, as many have mentioned, determined thieves are just that, determined. Best to have good insurance as a backup.

14 cameras, 3 PTZ. Can't miss em within a 1/4 mile. Drive onto my place and the cameras (all night vision BTW) follow you around automatically. Definitely a deterrent. I can remote view them and I receive a text if motion is detected.

What Fawken & bx25jim said. Post lots of warning signs (smile your on camera) this works except for extremly stupid thiefs but its the best way I've seen.

Like was stated earlier the average thief is lazy and goes after the low hanging fruit. The harder you make it to move it the less apt it is to disappear. I have a fuel valve on my tractor underneath and hard to see. They won't drive it out of the yard. Tractor keys are easy to subvert compared to cars. I wouldn't leave any small stuff in an isolated site, carry it back and forth. Locks are worthless. The heavier an implement is the less apt to see it stolen. All the other ideas have merit especially those the help recovery. That same information may be required by your insurance company also. Scrappers will grab anything metal that 2 guys can lift and leave the rest alone.

I had a 600 pound generator stolen. It was on wheels and they stole my loading ramps also to roll it up into their truck. Replacement noe is still on the skid instead wheels. Takes a forklift now to load.

Bottom line a dedicated thief after a certain item will get it. Even my generator. Case the joint first then bring the forklift and a trailer.

I've had folks come into my place but not to steal. My little lake for dozens of years was stocked with trout by the folks that leased the property. They would park at the county road and walk the mile+ into the lake to fish. Made no difference to me at the time - i had no improvements on the property and I was not paying to keep the lake stocked plus at the time I lived in AK and could not have done much anyhow.

I moved onto the property in '82 and had a road/driveway built the mile+ into the property. I also constructed my house & outbuildings that year. Those who had no legitimate business here found the new driveway a much easier method of access. However, they were ALWAYS met by a very upset, determined homeowner carrying a loaded 12 gauge shotgun - me.

I was and still am completely surprised how rapidly the "word" spread and since that first year I very seldom have uninvited "guests". It didn't hurt that the state police came and talked to me regarding my method of greeting. They had no choice other than to agree that this was a completely legal approach.

Trespass is still trespass in WA state.

A point can be made here - even living on your property full time may not deter a determined thief. Your approach to this situation will result in the level of deterrence. Beyond that - insurance is the final answer.

First of all remember the "OP"'s location is Croatia.

I consider the first step in protection is prevention. If noone thinks I have valuables they are less likely to try and get what I have.

There are a lot of summer homes in my area and during the winter months no one is around to deter theft. The area had a bad rash of random vandalism a couple of years ago also. I set up some video cameras in my house and then invited all the neighborhood kids over so they could see themselves and their buddies on the computer screen. My thought was to get the word out that this house had cameras.
Don't know if it did any good but it sure couldn't hurt.
Wouldn't let them in anywhere that they could see any valuables.

Fully agree.

When we first bought out Mississippi place we had relatives move in for about a year. The Guy had a .38 he liked to fire around the house (nearest neighbor over 100 yards, most a LOT further) at random intervals. Since he moved I'll fire my 12 gauge at random intervals, towards the back of my 73 acre lot maybe once or twice a month. Since I started with the 12 gauge the ATV traffic across the back of my lot along the ROW has stopped.

I've also "maintained" several small piles of "scrap" that the former owner had left laying around. They are unsightly but tend to attest to the value of what one may expect inside.

My game camera monitoring has only shown a dog and a cat checking out my "stuff".

Nothing will detain a determined thief.

In my case my 5,000 square foot of shops are all nice metal buildings.

It probably took me about 15 minutes to cut the hole for this window, I was slow. I imagine a thief with a battery operated sawzall could be quicker.

Most of my valuables are land and trees. Until I live here 24/7 and can deploy the BBD security system (Big Black Dog) I've stationed a somewhat unreliable guard at the end of my drive.
