Anyone have an idea what a 42" howard rotovator would be worth? Guy wants to sell it, but wants me to come up with a fair price.

I wish I knew. I have been looking for a nice used tiller for a while now, and have had no luck in N. Illinois. I called the local Howard rep, and he said if they come in used, they are beat. Darn. Still looking.

I paid $600 for a 50" Rotavator J model, but I had first borrowed it and couldn't return it in time but that's a long story.

The tine were worn badly, but it tilled just fine. I replaced all 28 blades for $225 and it doesn't seem to till any better - still just fine.

Parts are available. Pull the back of the gearbox off and if it and the drive chain are in good condition, it should be worth $400 if the width is ok with you. Me........I'd like to have a tiller that is as wide or wider than my tires so you don't have tire marks in the field.

Yes I did, thanks. They said used never come in, and if they do, you don't want 'em. New, it looks like about $1600. A real "Ouch" for a seasonal use item for me. It looks like renting is the way for the minimal use I will give it. That's until I find a nice used one for sale.
