How's everyone doing with the SNOW

Very nicely stated. The government should be there for and of the people. It's when it gets it's own agenda that it has gone wrong. And yes, it has gone very wrong.

Continue to help each other, even if the ornery ol bastard next door never waves to you just continue to knock his snowbanks back anyway. Maybe when the grumpy season is over he might throw me a smile and a wave or a nod LOL

Hello to you all from New Brunswick. We are still digging, but the weather pattern has apparently changed for the better.. It is up to 24* F here today. A little snow every couple days, but only a few inches rather than a few feet.

In a few moments I must mount up and clean the driveway again. It is still probably two months till we get spring and the big melt. I don't think the snow will be all melted until mid June, But slow melt means little flooding, I hope.

Our provincial and Municiple budget is shot to he!!, of course. Taxes will be going up inevitably I fear. Can't make a dollar out of fifteen cents nowadays, hardscrabble in the Canadian maritimes is not new but we cannot borrow anymore funds, nor look to our Federal Gummint for cash either. Feds are bound and bent to balance the budget, even at the cost of bankrupt provinces. There simply no answers.......

I really hope that the climatologists are wrong about their prognostications concerning climate change, the freaky jet stream, the so called "arctic vortex" and so on. I wonder if anybody really knows.

I am glad to have my Kubota and snow blower with cab. At least it is all paid for and capable, as long as I don't bust it. Next election I will vote for KUBOTA.

We have had a few days above 20 degrees and between storms so I could shovel the porch roof and snowshoe into the cottage and shovel that roof too. Despite the fact that it is going to start snowing again within the next few hours I am really enjoying this winter. I like to plow and then go out with the tractor and manipulate the banks. I do feel bad for those who are so negatively effected by the snow.

Yep. The *&%#@ snow.
I broke my cab window today by the tractor sliding sideways at the mailbox until the mailbox post hit the window. Happened because I got too close to the slope of the ditch. I was trying to make life easier for the maiman. Next time I will judge it better, Safety glass is expensive. Made myself angry but it could have been worse, as in rollover. I just cut her hard and shifted into High and gave her all the throttle. She popped out, thank goodness. Woluld have been very hard to get out if she had tripped all the way over because I am a Gimp, plus sorta stupid.

I learn something new about operating my tractor every day, but it costs money. _Plus my dear wife gets on my back for every mistake I make..Just in case I didn't feel bad enough awreddy :duh: :talktothehand:

After all, isn't this why we have govenments in the first place? Their task is to help out where needed and destribute the prosperity of the whole country to the areas that need help isn't it? Doing that is simple self-interest as that is what strong neighbors do for each other whether it's a neighborhood, town, city, state or country. The principle of what makes a group of people strong doesn't change whether it's a family or a nation, only the scale changes.
But in the meantime there's only so much money that one really needs. After that, enjoying life pretty much comes from sharing the good parts and helping overcome the bad things.

Sorry, but I couldn't disagree with these statements any more strongly. The task of government is not to redistribute the wealth. Never has been. I'm all for equal opportunity, but that doesn't guarantee equal results. There are those that work hard and take risks, they should reap the rewards thereof. It is not (or at least it *should* not be) the government's job to make sure a welfare check arrives in the mail every month to some woman who has made it her goal to have more kids by any number of fathers just so the check gets bigger and bigger, all while never paying a dime in taxes or contributing to society in any way.

Who are you to determine how much money is enough? Do Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have enough? What is that amount?

The point is that generosity at the point of a gun is not "generosity". While it may not start out at that level, the government eventually gets to the use of force, and they have a monopoly on the market.
<dismount_soapbox>

I haven't had to plow my driveway in a couple weeks. We have maybe 6 inches on the ground, but a fresh inch yesterday made for great sledding today with my pseudo-grandkids.

Three more inches coming tonight. I have to help a neighbor lady shovel snow off her roof and remove an ice dam that is making water leak into an upstairs bathroom. Another "sort of" family member has a house with frozen water between the house and the street. He was between tenants but can't rent it out until he has water.

Jix, sorry to hear but glad you are okay. Yeah I hate when my wife says, told you so, especially when I knew she was right in the first place!

Gov't is to provide for the common defense, regulate inter-state commerce, etc. As given by the constitution. What rScotty said is Socialism, and we've seen how well that worked in the USSR.

Re: Snow - I've been sick and confined indoors. SO we're leaving it. The kid next door did it for me one day and another the wife took the quad and plow to the driveway. When it gets warmer and I get healthier, I'll take the tractor and clean up and push back the snowbanks.
