That really is a nice set of pictures. And of course I don't understand why that whole set downloads just about as fast as most single pictures for me.

Fact is, it really is just one picture after I paste 'em all together. Maybe that's why. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I understand that, Harv, but several small pictures make one big picture and yet they seemed to load as fast as one small picture. Big pictures usually take even longer. Oh well, the blasted computer keeps me confused anyway./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif And now my microphone doesn't work right and I don't know what changed, other than the automatically downloaded and updated version of MSN Messenger Service. I've read "instructions" on Microsoft's help pages the last few days until my eyes crossed, and tried about all of them with no progress./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I knew that, Bird. Just felt like being facetious this morning. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

You also know that these pictures are just files, and file size is the one measurable factor in download times. Unfortunately, other factors come into play, such as routing, traffic and the overall cleanliness of your current connection. Actual performance is sometimes just a crap shoot. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Of course, I grease my files so they slip through the wires as fast as possible. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Being primarily a Mac guy, I can't help you with your microphone problem. I do have MSN on my Mac, and I gotta tell you it has some of the same characteristics as a virus. It installed itself as an automatic startup application, so every time I reboot it launches itself. When I remove it from my startup items, it rudely reinstates itself as such whether I want it or not. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

Let me know when you get Bill Gates' home phone number 'cuz I have quite a list of things I wish to "discuss" with him. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Harv, I gotta bunch of stuff like that./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Sure got a long system stray. I have figured out that the microphone works; "sound recorder" doesn't work right, but then I never use it for anything other than checking the microphone and volume anyway. I still don't know whether it'll work for voice messages on MSN Messenger.

And I'd like to cuss . . . I mean discuss, some things with Bill Gates myself./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Windows users can go to ZD net and download a utility called " Startup Cop" ( I think, it's been a while) that lets up control what loads at startup. You might want to check, they might have a version for Mac. I forget the URL, it's the Ziff-Davis website.

Thanks, Brad! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I checked, and there doesn't seem to be a Mac version. Not sure it would help anyway. The Mac simply has a folder in which you can place applications or aliases (shortcuts) to applications that will be launched as soon as the operating system is loaded. If you no longer wish a particular application to start automatically any more, you simply remove it from that folder.

This insidious piece of software (MSN Messenger), however, seems to notice when you do that, and within minutes creates a new copy in that folder. Like I said, such behavior is usually reserved for viruses. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

Never known Micro$oft to be arrogant or presumptuous before. Have you? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
