Howse CD2096C problems

Hello Everyone,

I picked up a dual spindle Howse shredder a few years ago. I like the size, but the cut is not as good as my 6' shredder. Whenever I make a pass with the Howse it tends to leave 2 strips; roughly the wheelbase of the tractor, in grass/weeds that are taller than 24". Then my OCD kicks in and I end up spending more time to shred my property with the 8' shredder vs the 6' shredder.

Is there anything I can do to make the cut better?

Is it just how dual spindle 8' shredders are?

Is there a different brand that would be recommended that is 8'?

When you say wheelbase are you referring to the definition of wheelbase (distance from front wheel hub to the rear wheel hub) or the wheel spacing (distance from tread centerline to tread centerline aka "row spacing")? If your mower leaves strips that coincide with the wheel spacing, then it is due to the tires laying the grass down but the grass can't stand back up quickly enough to get cut by the mower.

Shorten the intervals between mowing events so the grass isn't as tall and you'll reduce the likelihood that it can't stand back up after driving over it. You night also consider investing in a rear finish mower which is more akin to the deck on a typical lawn mower on steroids for better cut quality.

Shredders, slashers, brush hogs, brush cutters, brush choppers, et al are not meant to leave a fairway finish.
