Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

There's one thing that has not been mentioned in this post that I think is important. An HST uses hyd. pressure called charge pressure. It uses it for lubrication and to kind of keep things together so to speak. The charge pressure also acts as an internal spring to help return the swash plate to neutral. The charge pressure changes with the rpm of the engine as the charge pump is driven directly by the engine. When the rpm is low, the charge pressure is low, compared to when the engine is at a higher rpm, and flow is also affected. If you are running the engine at lower rpms with a load (going up a hill), the "hyd return spring" is not as strong, hence the HST not returning to neutral. All of the other points (the external spring and lubing piviot points) are right on, but the rpm does play a role in the equasion. Unfortunately, the problem is the nature of the beast to an extent, but can be dealt with. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Glad to be here. Reading everyone's posts actually helps keep up on reoccuring problems and see things from a customer's point of view. I've even recommended TBN to customers.

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

I wanted to post an update to my problems. Almost a week ago on 3/6/04 I had my local dealer come get my TC-40D because I have had a slow hydraulic leak since the day I got it. I also wanted him to check the HST and related linkages since my tractor has occasionally failed to stop once I let my foot off of the forward HST pedal.

I called the dealer today 3/12/04 to get an update on the problems. I was told that the hydraulic leak was caused by a result of the high pressure relief valve leaking from the top of the HST. He made mention that repair access had to come from the top of the tractor. (Possibly this was why I could never determine where the leak was when I was under the tractor searching myself. The whole bottom of the rig seems to be misted with hydro oil.)

When I questioned the sticking hydro pedal problem I was told that New Holland was sending a repair spring kit that corrects the HST pedal return problem. He doesn't know what to expect himself since the kit had not yet arrived but he was assured that the install was quick and straightforward. Frankly at this point I'm skeptical but I'll give the dealer and New Holland the benefit of the doubt and see how it all plays out once I have had a chance to test it myself.

I'll let you all know more then. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

You should be more optimistic 99% of the time New Holland takes care of all problems. With the thousand of tractors they sell every year there are only a few percentage off those representend here on this web site. I think an improved spring kit should make a difference. This hydro transmission has been around a long time and is basically bullet proof. I am sure the problems are all related to linkage and leverage points and not inside the tranny itself.

Spencer200, any idea if this will be a service program ( 1/2 recall ) item, or do you have to ask ??

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

An additional spring or a stronger spring sounds like just the thing we need on our Class IIIs. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ...can't really speak for other classes. Of course, now we'll have to push harder to get it to go and hopefully the cruise control will not slip due to the extra spring tension. Maybe ole Mike will give us a preview when he gets his tractor back. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: HST Just Won\'t Stop, Quit, Woah!

Jim if there is a difference I'll be more than happy to fire up the digital camera and take some shots. I do personally hope that the kit makes short work of the sticky pedal syndrome so that we can all put this issue behind us. I for one really like my TC-40D otherwise and think that it is a fine tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Please, if you can, get a part number or service bulletin number.

Hard to say at this time. I would expect that it would be on an as needed basis.
