Kubota BX24
My BX24 amazes me with it's power, but I did have an issue this weekend, where I was fast dragging a scrape blade "up" my driveway to put the finishing touch on. I had the BX in high range, near full throttle (still in break-in mode) and fast forward motion, floating the scrape blade (turned backwards) and I could smell the smell similar to a burning clutch or brakes. The tractor wasn't "bogging", and kept speed.
What was getting hot? I'm not very familiar with these transmissions. I did a second pass at lower speed and there was no such smell.

Is it possible that what you smelled was coming from the hydraulic oil vent? Several of us have had that happen. It's not unusual for the hydraulic oil to get 100 degree F above the ambient temperature and under just the right conditions, the operator gets a whiff of the vent.

Thanks Bird....is the smell cause for concern?...or normal? I repeated the process, without dragging the blade at all, but going up-hill, and had the same smell, perhaps it is simply the vent?

It does sound as if that's where the smell is coming from, and if so, it's normal.

Bird may have it nailed. If that's not it, it's doing the same thing my L series did under load until about 50 hrs. Guess it got paint and steel up to higher temps the more I loaded it and over different points in time it saw increasingly higher temps. Then one day, no more smell..... Can't explain it but sure did experince it. Like Bird said, no worries. It could stay if it's what he described, or it could go if it's what I described.
