HST trans question

   / HST trans question #11
Granddad,

Had an issue with my X749 last week not starting and had to drag it backwards with my 4520. This was on a well packed gravel driveway and the 4520 is weighted with a total weight of about 5500lbs. The tractor would spin the tires pulling the lawnmower in two wheel drive, had to use 4x4 to drag the mower backwards. I was a little suprized about that.

Steve,

Isn't there a disconnect lever on the transmission so you can push pull and drag it around without damaging the transmission?

Yes there is a disconnect, but you have to hold it to keep it disengaged. I thought I had it in the correct position but working by my self I pulled it back a couple of feet and it reverted back to the engaged position.

I throw mine in nuetral, and it stays right there..........and it is a nuetral setting. Engine on or off, my machine will roll, forwards or backwards. I quite often , put it in nuetral, brake disengaged, then use my hand on the tire to roll the tractor forwards or backwards to hook up implements.
