Being a relatively new member of TBN, I don't know exactly what determines, or who decides a subject is way off the original post.

But it certainly becomes interesting reading along the way. And THATS why I became addicted to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When you start out discussing HST transmissions vs. gear drives (a favorite topic for discussion and differing views) and the subject drifts to what is a real farmer and what isn't, that's WAY off the original post.

Sometimes it's amusing, sometimes it isn't.

Leave it to Gatorboy to put things right, or at least try.

David, I bought a pocket probe from this link, model 300 with boot. It plugs in the hydraulic fluid level hole in place of the dip stick. Worked fine on my B21 and B7500. Not real convient to see behind your foot nor did it seal that well. It was adequate for checking the temp from time to time. I found the HST fluid temperature when I worked hard to be about 100 deg. F above ambient. Temperature Probe Look under "pocket digitals"

Actually, all the real farmers I know love the internet. Internet has been a big thing for rural folks around where the real farmers in my family live.

Del, the farmer that I refered to earlier is full time and neither he nor his son or there wives work off the farm. They do have fun and live good lives. I've never heard anyone say they have to much money, but they vaction every year in different places and are active in town. The difference is that there is no 8-5 in the farming world! Right now the milk prices aren't the best so they are in all do respects living a lower style then when the milk prices are up higher. This is also the way it is in the grain industry. When it's right you go 24-7 till the work is done, to wait often means lower quality as well as profit! Every year is a gamble to them, they don't need to go to the casino or to a local card game as they lay out there cards every year.

Egon, here in California, organic farmers are doing pretty good. They can be specialty guys with just a couple of acres or less to many acres. Everywhere you go are farmers markets. A stand on the side of the road where just about any kind of vegetable in season can be obtained. I think we are a bit spoiled here as many farmers in California farm year around. Very close to me is a local store, they grow much of the produce themselves. It is in my hometown. Heres the link. Newcastle Produce The produce is superb.

Hay I might be getting into this one a little late but what does a real farmer have to do with HST transmissions?

Oh I know a real farmer owns a hst./forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Guess everyone already knows my view on what tranni is a good choice in a compact tractor.

Not on my little JD 4400,I start it and climb on and go,no matter what the temperature.
