WOW! What great response to the issue. He sells Kioti and Long/Farmtrac and it is quite a large dealer. After thinking about my discussions with him, he just might be a little old school. Well now my search goes on. Had it narrowed down to 2 tractors, now I gotta start all over! Thanks everyone............ /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It may also be that Kioti has just recently (over past couple of years) started making Hydrostat tractors. So he may still be somewhat skeptical of that. This is by no way a shot against Kioti as I l haven't heard of any Kioti owners having problems with Hydros.

Good luck in your search. Try them all!

I've also talked to quite a few dealers that will not stock gear tractors. They all told me in their market area, they can't keep HST's on the lot where a gear will just sit there.
When I bought my TC18, they had a gear TC21 on the lot for over a year and a half. Offered it to me for almost the same price as the TC18 Hydro.

So it may be an area market thing too.

If all you have in stock is slot screwdrivers, you're gonna tell everyone those philips screwdrivers are no good.

How many models of those tractors have hydrostatic transmissions? A few of the Kiotis? I think your answer is obvious. However, that Kioti CK30 hydro is a pretty darn nice tractor. It's probably so popular your dealer has a tough time getting them, so my original thesis applies. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Keep reading and doing your homework! This place is a great resource for those who want to learn while shopping. I lurked here at TBN for a long time as I considered what I wanted / needed.

From reading here and considering what size tractor I wanted, I decided on a Kubota 3130 and then the HST for ease of use and finally the Kubota 3430 so to make up for some HP loss with the HST.

I have no regrets. This first time tractor owner was moving snow piles with ease on the very first day the tractor arrived.

I had borrowed a similiar sized geared tractor several times and never could get the hang of it so as to be totally comfortable. Sure, if I grew up on a geared tractor (as many neighbors did) then I am sure it would do all I ever needed.

Good luck with your shopping!

( Does loader work hurt HST? A dealer in my area does not recommend purchase of a loader with HST. He doesn't even stock HST tractors! I will have extensive loader work and I'm worried about a tractor purchase with HST in the 28-35HP range. Anyone had HST repair work done? Loader involved? Warrantied today are 2 years and I don't want to repair my HST on the 3rd year......LOL! )I wouldn't want a dealer who's uninformed and behind the times like he is for my dealer.

( Some folks just don't take well to change. He's probably still got a Model T in his garage too.

I'll bet if you tell your dealer that you made your mind up to purchase an HST that he'll change his tune.

I don't have a Model T in in my garage but I do have a 1950 Chevy and a 1969 Rambler American in my garage.

New owner chiming in.... I priced and research for a long time, finally bit the bullet and bought a CaseIH, DX40 HST with a QA bucket, after having the HST, I don't see how anybody could say a gear tractor is better, ESPECIALLY when using a loader, it makes moving materials comfortable and easy, almost too easy, I often find myself running out of excuses to use it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And for what it's worth, most of the dealers I talked to said the HST was 'Tougher' than a geared tractor, due to the fact that the HST would soak up most of the force when the tractor is stoped by immoveable objects.

Oh yeah... Make sure he puts rear remotes and a QA bucket on it, this will ensure that whatever the job, there will be an implement you need, (excuse for the wife) this therefore increases 'seat time'

Happy Hunting /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have 1400 hours on my hydrostat with lots of hard use and with a loader.....nothing but praise here....

Seems that hydro would be very handy for loader work, especially for short shuttle runs like loading trucks. That being said, I still prefer gear "just because". It's largely a matter of personal taste. I have used hydro rental tractors, and my garden tractor for mowing is a hydro, but for "real" tractor work, gear drive is better suited to my taste and temperment. Some like Fords, some like Chevys...
