Oh and layed off is very different from being fired in my book. Like Mossroad said fired is what happens when it IS your fault. Layed off can happen to anybody through no fault of their own.

Gee, even when the "lay off" is permanent? You mean to tell me that I made my last boss cry for no reason? I kept asking him to give me one single reason I wouldn't have a job with the company anymore and he just got these odd facial twitches and asked me why I was making it so hard on him. I told him that I thought it was actually much harder on ME since he still had a job and he was taking my company car, telling me that I no longer had a job, and calling me a cab to go back home to my pregnant wife to tell her that I was no longer employed. He would only tell me that my entire division was being eliminated and he was to tell me that I was being "layed off" but would never be called back to work. I just figured that was a polite way of saying "you're fired". I had no intention of ever filing for unemployment, and as I've stated here before I never did, but I wanted to hear someone tell me that I was fired. He wouldn't do it. He just grabbed my company car keys and ran off crying, which was confusing because I was the one left with only COBRA for insurance, no job, a a pregnant wife, no car to drive and a mortgage. Oh well, he actually applied for a job with me about 6 years later. I told him that I'd take his application under consideration. I think I still have it somewhere.

Good Afternoon Dargo,
Gee that sounds vaguely familiar !

My manager herded a bunch of the modelmakers in our department together, brought us up to the fourth floor, which was the top floor in our engineering building, and then individually dropped us off at various offices on that floor. I knew immediatedly what was happening soon as we were herded together ! In fact I remember joking with one of the guys I was with on the elevator with, telling him to take it like a man ! ;)

Why they just didnt bring us all to HR and tell it like it was, I still havent figured that one out yet ! Instead they brought us up to these engineering managers, and let them give us the bad news ! I drew this women manager , maybe in her 40's, and before she could spit the whole thing out she starts crying ! ;) Im getting layed off and here I am trying to tell her its going to be OK ! :)

The only reason I could come up with of why the company choose this method of telling its employees they are all done is that maybe they are trying to put the fear of God in these people ! Just a guess on my part, but weird just the same ! :)

Thank God for our tractors. You don't see their names plastered on the last list.

Lets keep the fingers crossed.

Holla if you HEMI!

As has been brought out the list has its issues. :)

The JD calendar I have from 2008 has photos of tractors being made in factories around the world. So it should be on the list. :) ;) :p :D

I have heard of managers having to layoff/fire all of their employees then the manager's manager lays off/fires the manager. That is COLD. Laying off someone is stressful for everyone unless the manager is a cold hearted ..... But to make the mangler do the deed and then fire the mangler is just evil.

Course the person being fired has the most stress.

When Personnel Departments had name changes to Human Resource the writing is on the wall, persons tain't people, they are resources like a press, computer system, building, desk, truck or tractor.

I know at least a couple dozen people who have lost their jobs over the last few years. Its ugly. They are good, competent and hardworking people. But the jobs have been shipped overseas. I have been sitting under Mr. Damocles sword for years. Waiting.:rolleyes::(

Later,
Dan

I was laid off/fired/whatever from my first job back in 2002 when the tech bubble burst. I worked for a small company, 20ish folks, with a president/owner. We worked in a small office building, in which we were the only tenants. There was a big group of folks that he decided to fire that day, like maybe 7 or 8. He made the 2 project managers fire everybody.

The guy that fired me was a friend that I had worked closely with for several years. We both knew what was up, so I didn't blame him, I knew he had nothing to do with it. A couple years later the owner fired all but 1 employee. Now it's just him and 1 other guy. I couldn't be happier for him ;)

Fortunately for me, I saw the writing on the wall and had already interviewed at a couple other places. I got an offer the Monday after I got fired, making about 20% more. I started 2 weeks later, while still collecting on my month's severance pay from the previous job.

I knew a business owner that used to threaten and sue a lot of his salesmen on their noncompetes when they left his company. I forget why he was arrested, but he eventually ended up in jail where he died of a drug overdose. Point is that there are decent employers and then there are employers that are crooks to be blunt about it, with all kinds in between.

I always thought the 'new' Hummers were pieces of crap anyway, not based on the military chassis so what's the point? Just another large SUV.

Anybody see that Reno911! episode where they got a Hummer? They had some pretty good jokes about trying to park it, always running out of fuel etc. :D

And this will help you how?

One can interrpret this by the mega-million paychecks and options grants. If some of those incentives were given back to employees, perhaps productivity would increase.

Instead, from what I have seen, pay has been cut over years, and options are no longer dispensed.
