Hummingbirds!!! Seeing any yet??

I've had a couple for the past several weeks, here on the Mississippi Coast.
Counted five zipping around thr feeded this afternoon.

Neighbor just refilled their feeder as a hummingbird waited on the wire hanger for it to be filled- over the weekend- here in central Maine.

That little guy is in trouble if he doesn't start to move his tiny butt south ASAP!

I filled 2 last weekend thinking that would be the end of this season...I was wrong. I keep something in there until it doesn't get consumed. I see some here and there during the day but I understand they mostly migrate at night (predators). Somehow they can find the feeders in the dark I guess. The one problem is that keeping that sweet juice out is also hornet bait but so far they are content to feed and not bite (that changes when the temps get a little lower and they just get mean).

We were down to a final pair up until about a week ago. Now they have all gone south.

We had at least 20 until last week. Tonight we counted 5, but I wonder if they are travelers from north. We hope we are on the approved hotel list in the hummingbird AAA book ;-)

The last couple of nights have been cold, but tonight we are back to warm weather. I've read that the length of day is more important than temps, but these little guys can't handle much cold.

Soon they will all be heading further south but we will continue to fill the feeders until several days after we see the last one.
