Hummingbirds!!! Seeing any yet??

Still seeing them in coastal Rhode Island but less frequently than a couple of weeks ago.

Great photo Troutsqueezer. Your birds play together better than the ones we see at work. I come in half an hour before my boss leaves each day so we can go over anything we need to talk about. Since she is a smoker, we sit on the screened in porch. There are four hummingbird feeders just on the other side of the screen, so we are treated to a close up view of them. They fight more than drink. It is not uncommon for two of them to be so busy driving each other off, that a third one can come in and drink. I think they nest in our big oak. That is where they fly to after drinking.

Sure they are good. But it takes so long to pluck one, and you have to eat at least a dozen.

I had another hummingbird caught in the garage yesterday. Hummingbirds only fly up. They never seem to grasp the fact that they have to fly down to get out of the open garage door.

You want a hint??? What color is the emergency handle on your garage door opener? A friend quit wearing any cap with that color on it when they are around. I use Folgers coffee containers to soak wood chips for the smoker. Have to switch to Maxwell House blue I guess. Somewhere down the chain somebody said 10-15 ft away. Go red and you'll be able to get much closer!!!

Still here in central Maine- neighbor still feeding- last week ours left I think. Haven't seen it but there are still many flowers around- no frost as yet.

We had to refill our 26 feeders daily this summer, but now most of the hummers have left - down to maybe a dozen birds.
