Hummingbirds, We got 'em!

Saw the first hummingbird of Spring last week. Hung the feeder on the front porch the same day. It's one of those nice glass designs from Mexico. Easy to clean.

Late yesterday afternoon, I went out back and saw our first hummer.

I'm hoping to get a new feeder this year, I'll surely check that one out Western.

Dennis,

I haven't seen that type of feeder. Is it plastic? We've gone to the glass bottle type feeders and like them a lot better. It doesn't seem to matter what we put out there, we always have about half a dozen of them chasing each other around. Maybe we need more then four feeders?

From the manufacturer web site here: HummZinger Hummingbird Feeders

"The bright red cover attracts hummingbirds from a distance & removes easily so the bowl can be cleaned quickly & thoroughly. Crafted in the U.S.A. from durable polycarbonate, the HummZingers are backed by a Lifetime Guarantee." Doubt the glass ones have that good of guarantee. The top fits over the bottom clear piece.

Eddie, they say after a HB stakes out his food source, you can have another within a foot, but we have found they are better 20' or so apart and they still will fight some. we have 7 with-in a 6k area.

The Hummzinger looks great, until you look at the price.

Bird, they sure aren't cheap (that model 12oz) They have cheaper models though, that is just the one we like.

I just went out and chased the bees away from my cheap Walmart hummingbird feeder, then washed the ants off, then washed the whole thing, refilled it, and hung it in a slightly different place.

Saw me one down at my farm this weekend. Buzzing around some skunk cabbage, of all things. May put me out a feeder.

Saw one a long time at the feeder here in NH yesterday. After it moved off I went out and refreshed the liquid and have not seen any activity since. They don't play nice when they come here, each feeder seems to have a guard which tries to chase off newcomers. If they would just share a bit instead of acting like WW1 fighters lots to go around.
