Hunting Cabin

I am pretty sure I had a post deleted last week too.

You put this out here. You should laugh some, or realize that people are not going to see this the way you think.

If I show up with lawn mower at tractor pull, and find out people don't consider it a tractor, maybe should go to the lawn mower drags.

I am all for helping with technical suggestions.

Pardon me for not calling it the proper term the way you see fit. My little acreage is surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods. My lot is heavily wooded. The spot where I want this is the perfect spot for a shed, cabin, guest house, or whatever you wish to call it. Fantastic view this time of year. So what if I want to hunt deer from the porch in inclement weather. So what that it is a hundred or more yards from the house. Once you're at that spot you have the look and feel of being somewhere else in the wilderness. That is probably the closest I am going to get to having something like some have in Alaska or other remote places of the country.

I am in the UP, sorta like AK in places but beer is cheaper. I don't know where you are. Mid Atlantic?? I think most of people are not in AK. We just have camps that are not in our yard. The people I know have them 30 miles to 500 miles away. Mine is 300.

But you never did give any info for what you want. Do you plan on sleeping there, do you plan on having friends over, is there a need for water? Is there a reason why you can't trench power such a short distance?

I like a little cabin in the back yard, like a room "away". Fun to build too. Here's a pic of a shack I renovated in the back yard. Would have liked to build new but that might risk the county telling me I couldn't add the sheds on each side, so we just did it.

Probably won't sleep out there unless the wife kicks me out of the house. I want to have it set up like a little cabin, have friends over sitting around the fire pit, cooking/grilling. A conversation piece, a place to kick back and relax and enjoy the scenery. But if we want to camp out there then we will or can.

Sodo - Very nice job, I like it.

Sodo... looks like many more years of service ahead with your renovation..

Being so close the house, if you didn't run power, you could use car batteries. I suspect old ones would have more years in them, Charge them at the house. I know someone who lives this way, charging batteries in a car.

General lee, ignore the nay sayers. As I said before I like the idea. In a property that we use to own, we had 24 acres. We hunted the woods and creek out back.

A cabin doesn't need to be 100 miles away (near someone else's backyard).

I completely agree with GPintheMitten - a cabin is a cabin no matter where it is. I think you have a great idea, will have an adventure constructing it and will enjoy it for a long time.
