Why'd they come up with "flip caps"? Never could understand the need. Never had trouble with the regular caps and take them off with gloves on.

I have a 550XP and have always felt it was miserly with the bar oil. I'm running a 16" bar with the oil valve on max and my bar is still turning purple and looking overheated in spots. I can't imagine I'd fair well with a longer bar. What's your experience with your new 550XP, or from anyone else that has one.

My 550 puts out plenty of oil, I haven't had any problems with lack of bar oil with it.
I ran it with the stock 20" bar for a time when I first got it, then changing it out to 3/8" chain - 16" bar now...

Yup sounds like oil pump issue, I suppose something could be plugged with sawdust. On my old 550xp it was like that after a few years of use, I ordered a new oil pump and new hose and when I took it apart it was just the hose that had a hole in it, after I replaced that went back to full oil flow.
Looks to me those stock bars and chains are on the cheaper version, no grease hole in bar tip, and no holes in chain drive links.
The flip cap is lot easier to open, I've had times when I had to use wrench to open, one reason why theres always a place to put the a wrench in the cap. If you got a husky see if a new flip cap will fit your saw, try it you'll like it.

I did. It was on an old JD saw from the 90's made by the present Efco at the time. I just couldn't get this saw to oil correctly with not enough going onto the bar and chain. Mazolla was the only oil that would actually empty out when refilling fuel like it is supposed to happen. I then attempted to use corn oil on my old Husq 50. Came pouring through and too thin for that saw.
I'm guessing the viscosity of the European veggie based bar oils are formulated just for that purpose.
That guy in the video is up Canada. Right now I have 5 gal of used tractor trans oil that I want to use, but veggie oil sounded like a cheap alternative to $12.00/gal of bar oil.
Then at both hardware stores and especially the first store, they really like to push that $20.00/gal ethanol free gas, why all of a sudden ethanol gas is bad for a saw, whether it is or isn't there's no way I'm paying $20.00/gal for gas. I have two Jonsereds that are 15 and 20 years old, best starting saws this side of the Mississippi. So I'll just get some gas additive if I have any issues.
