I definitely will do test pumps like you described. I also think this would be a good way of cleaning/flushing out any debris that may be in them.. ... you know the funny thing is I've been hand pumping fuel oil for years and I've had these pumps sitting:mur::mur::mur: looks like I just added a new project to list:thumbsup::cool2:

I may try to change out the seal in the 2 stage but I'll have a closer look at bearing movement at the shaft end . My exp. has been that when a seal goes something caused it .. so I'm thinking the bearing is shot which caused the seal & the BUNA-N INSERT to wear out .
Ideally I'd like to engine mount or transmission mount a hyd gear pump on this truck. I know the military did it I just gotta figure out how? the winch is pto driven from the transmission and when these M35's had a dump & winch they were power separately. Any military motor pool mechanics on this site?
One of the vane pumps I have is going to become my new fuel transfer pump.

When you get that bad boy out a "6 wheeling" in mud, get a video and share. That would be awesome! You really can forget about a snowplow, just drive it all winter.

Check alignment with a straight edge.....the 2 stage pump, do not take it apart, the only hope to reseal the shaft is to pull it with sheetrock screws and search one out locally......if you pull pump apart you'll lose the close tolerances internally and it won't build pressure......
I believe this has happened to me. I had the small engines class at the tech school replace the shaft seal. Now the pump will not build pressure…should I junk it and purchase a new one? Or seek out a professional to rebuild it? This is the pump…

I don't understand how internal close tolerances would be lost upon disassembly. Could you please explain?
Thanks,

Hydraulic gear pumps are close tolerance thru mechanical interference between the housings, gear sets and end plates, during startup they undergo a breakin that wears the gear tips and housings to establish a running clearance barely worn. Smaller gear pumps have tighter clearances to achieve rated pressures than larger gear pumps but larger gear pumps have pressure plates in the housings that squeeze in during high pressure. Smaller disposable gear pumps just have a bare housing instead of replaceable side wear plates.
When a smaller log splitter pump comes apart the housings usually never exactly line up the same (within thousands of an inch not seen by naked eye). So when the splitter pumps goes to breakin again it oversizes the gear housing.
