Thank you Leejohn. That is a great price. I may consider those. I was actually hoping for a 3" bore but not sure they would fit or clear. I am gong to go do some measuring.

Went down the road to tractor dealer and miced up some cylinders. Here is what I found. The itty bitty one...lawn mower with loader...LOL had about the same size cylinder that mine has....what a joke. loader3.jpg loader4.jpg. The 40 and 50 horse ones had bigger ones like should have been put on my loader. Mine is 40 hp. loader1.jpg loader5.jpg loader2.jpg

Did you drop the load a little? That would put a big spick on the Hyd and over load your cyls.

I looked around a little and my loader has 2.36 bore. My loader is for 42 to 57 hp running with max 2630 psi. The loader one size down has 1.97 bore and that is for 32 to 39 hp running with 2560 max psi.. I did not find the rod size, but I would say they are over 1". What size are the rods in yours?

If you cyls are under 2" I would be making a phone call. With the relief set right, no spick, and the right cyls I'm just having a hard time understanding how that would happen. When you find out please post back.

Leejohn- if the control valves were centered when the tractor rolled the pressure spike can be just about infinite because the relief is on the pump pressure side of the hydraulic circuit ie pressure relief is only in the cylinders circuit while the valve is actuated (unless i am mistaken)

Checked the cylinders on my K2 ( 55 hp tractor)( similar to the 220) Koyker and they are just under 3 inches o.d. the rods are 1.5 inch o.d. and are about 32" in compressed length.

from the pictures it looks like the rod size is under 1 inch.

and from the 165 manual -

a 5/8" rod for 1 3/4 cylinders
and 3/4"rod for 2" cylinders
both sound undersized for a 40 hp tractor but if it has the 1 3/4" cylinders upgrading to the 2" is a no brainer

Koyker offers a really wide range of suggestions horsepower wise- from their site- check out the range that theoretically could span a 40 horsepower tractor

Biggest I would put on them are 2" cylinders. Thats the biggest the MFG puts on that loader frame. And even then....still a 1800# to full height rating.

But, a 4200# 40HP tractor....I think the 165 loader is too small anyway. Is that the loader that was suggested by a dealer? one that came on it ?

I miced up the shaft and cylinders on mine as well. It has a 1 3/4 bore with a 1" shaft. It came on the tractor when I bought it with 42 hours. It has around 100 now. I bought some online last night I am going to make them work I hope.....with a 1.5" shaft. All I can say is..............

KOYKER LOADERS...made in the USA with cheap china parts....LOL

How big are the cylinders you ordered? Bore size?

You mentioned 3" bore.....look at koyker's specs. 3" bore cylinders are used on their loaders for 100+ HP tractors, with 5000# lift capacities.

I know going from 2" to a 3" cylinder dont sound like alot, but a 2" cylinder with 2500 PSI pushes with about 7,850# of force. Going to 3" @ 2500psi jumps that to 17,500#.

You have a real possibility of damaging the loader frame or the tractor if you try to lift something too heavy. Even just going up to a 2-1/4" bore cylinder increases its push force by a ton. AND you have TWO cylinders.....

I bought 2.5" bore with 1.5 rod size 2500 PSI. They are bigger then the puny ones I have now. I usually only use it for driveway gravel and black dirt so should never be a problem. I will let you know how they work but I bet they don't bend.....fingers crossed......

Were you satisfied with the lift capacity before? or did you think the loader was too weak for the tractor?
