Hydraulic Cylinder Leak Down on Box Blade???

How is this possible? So your scarifiers only engage by tilting the box forward? The scarifiers need to go below the cutting edge to do any ripping.

I'm at a loss of understanding here. If you have time, a picture would be worth many words in this scenario. I would like to understand what is going on to allow this to happen on your box blade.

The weight of my ripper beam will swing them into the lock position if the BB is off the ground so they are free to do so. My cylinder doesn't force them into the locked position. I'll try to get a good pic next time I have it mounted.

I think you'll be lots happier with it now. A scarifier beam that constantly needs to be raised would get old fast!!!

Let us once again play with peoples words and lose the meaning of what we are trying to teach.

If anyone on here acutally ever said "it is impossible for the cylinder to drift in the retract direction" well.....then......that was probably after having said the same thing several times but including "IF the cylinder is full of oil".

But like I said, once again we are loosing the meaning. How may posts do we see on here where a member has a cylinder drifting (usually loader arms)? And how may people always say "probably the piston seals leaking by"

The message we are trying to convey is THAT CANT HAPPEN. Many difference scenarios or combination of things can be wrong and cause issues. BUT NOT PISTON SEALS LEAKING BY.

In this case, it seems he had alot of air in the cylinder. How it got there.....who knows. Lots of ways air can get into hydraulics. Oil leaked out out of the hoses through the QC's last time he had it off??? Gland seal sucking air in? The oil fairy took it? Have no idea. But the problem clearly wasnt piston seals. And had this been on a loader, with a Thread title of "loader drifting", then by now on page 6 there probably would have been 8-10 mentions of piston seals and leaking by.

Maybe there needs to be a list created listing all posters who are "correct" and those who are "incorrect" in their assumptions. That always works out well.

Also maybe you can explain to us how the cylinder now holds, after he plugged the bypass holes when it wouldn't before? Wouldn't the bypass holes be the same as the piston seals leaking?

Regardless, I see no need in this discussion to start hurling stones around. This has been a very informative discussion for most of the posters involved.

Air in the system. Plugging the holes was irrelevant. He got all the air out the second time around.

Piston, Piston seals, and Piston holes are all irrelevant. The whole piston can be unthreaded from the rod and removed. Once the cylinder is purged of all the air, you CANNOT force the rod into the cylinder without the oil going somewhere. Basic displacement

So he has a problem with his tractor?? Somehow his tractor put air in the cylinder?

Yep. Or oil leaked out if his hoses when they weren't attached, pumping air in the cylinder, or a faulty gland seal sucking air in. Could be many things. Piston seals (oil bypassing the piston) is NOT one of them. It boggles my mind why so many fail to see that. If the cylinder is full of oil (no air) the cylinder WILL NOT compress unless oil LEAVES the cylinder. PERIOD
