I just had my walk through on a new L2800 and discovered that the hydraulic fluid fill cap was missing. I addressed this with the salesman, and he promptly retrieved a cap and installed it. My concern is that I am unsure how long it was missing and therefore concerned about rain water in the hydarulic fluid. Should I insist that the hydraulic fluid be changed out before taking ownership?
Since this is my first tractor, I'm still wide-eyed and full of questions. You folks have been great in guiding my decisions.
By the way the tractor will be used on 12 acres: planting and mowing about 6 acres, limited stump removal with the BH, some trenching, moving soil and mulch with the FEL, and maintaining 4 acres in agriculture.

At the very least, I'd insist on them checking the fluid for water (and/or dirt) Let the tractor sit for a couple days. (to allow the oil to settle out completely) Then drain a little from the bottom (through drain plug) Then let that settle out. If there's one speck of impurities, it should be changed (I'd say under warranty) The dealer should be more than willing to do so. I've seen tractors with GALLONS of water in the hydraulic system and it didn't do any significant damage. But they weren't new. If it was mine, I'd hold my breath and turn blue before I'd let the dealer get away with NOT doing anything.

Easy, change the fluid and hydro filter.

Thanks for your input. I contacted the Kubota Dealer today and provided your comments. Waiting to see how they handle this.

The Kubota dealership handled this just fine. They agrred to replace hydro oil and filter. These guys have been great all through the tractor buying process. High five to Kubota.
