I have a BX22 and one of my hydraulic lines have a slow leak. I am going to replace it soon, but in the mean time I need to add hydraulic fluid to it to keep the level where it should be. Do I have to use Kubota Hydraulic fluid or can I use any brand? I would get it from Kubota, but the nearest place that sells it is an hour away and I don't have time to make a trip there. I need to use the tractor tomorrow but want to make sure the fluid is up to the fill point. Could I get some at an automotive place like Advanced Auto? Thanks.

If there is a large Shell or Chevron dealer, not little gas stations, they should have what you are looking for.

Any tractor store would have something that would work. However, some hydraulic fluids are not compatible with others so make sure the fluid is compatible with Kubota UDT or Super UDT.

What did you have in mind to do when it comes time to change the fluid?
I'd just go visit the dealer and pick up 12 - 15 quarts as you will need it sooner or later.

Don't use a regular hydraulic fluid. It doesn't have the correct characteristics / additives for wet brakes or hydrostatic transmissions. Use only a "Universal Transmission and Hydraulic Fluid" specifically intended for use in tractors. Find one that lists as meeting Kubota UDT specs.

This particular mystic is not compatable...the JT-5...I think that is it ... is compatable. I will search TSC and post again soon. Tim

Thanks for the info. I am going to wait and get the Kubota fluid. I don't want to mess anything up. I am looking online and the super UDT is allot more money than the standard UDT. Do I have to use super and should I use the super?

Depends on your location on whether you should use SUDT or not. If you live in a cold climate, it is suggested that you use SUDT. Some dealers in warmer climates don't even sell the SUDT.

If you are only topping off the fluid and not changing the fluid, I would suggest buying the same type of fluid already in your tractor.

Well I would not just use any oil! According to Kubota only udt and sudt us compatible!

I've never changed the fluid so I'm not sure if it is super or not. I bought it used so I am not sure what the last person put in in so now I am going to change the oil/filter. I live in Pa, so I guess the super applies to me. The standard UDT is about $12 cheaper for the 2.5 gallons which is almost enough. I think mine takes 2.7 gallons. For $12 though, I would rather get the correct oil, I just can't believe how expensive it is.

I am also going to change the engine oil and looking in the book it is saying to use Service CC or CD. I googled that and what I am seeing are those 2 types are obsolete so that makes me wonder what is current if I go to an auto parts store to get the engine oil?

The UDT vs SUDT debate will never cease :D
From what I garnered from practical use, owner/user input over the course of a few years, local dealer recommendations and correspondence directly from Kubota USA, I'll share my findings.

1) Using UDT (straight 20w hydraulic dino oil) will not damage your HST no matter the model. It is a premium straight weight hydraulic oil designed for Kubota HST's w/internal wet brakes, wet pto clutches, gears, bearings and external hydraulic implements.

2) Using SUDT (10w20 mulitweight hydraulic dino oil) will not damage your HST no matter the model. The "S" means Super and not synthetic. It is designed for the same environment as the UDT plus:
SUDT has better flow characteristics when cold (the 10w) so it provides "better" lubrication and faster flow in colder temps than UDT.
SUDT has a higher flash point than UDT (the w20) which means it will maintain it's viscosity better than the UDT in the higher heat ranges.
Basically, SUDT is better than UDT in performance when it's cold and when it's hot.

The oils can be mixed somewhat (like when topping off) but it is not recommended to run a 50/50 mixture etc.

Neither are synthetic.

VolfanT....we must be "follern" each other around...Ha ha....I totally agree with you and can't add another word. The info you have post here is exactly what I found in some 3 months of research. IF my BX was NOT under warranty I would have found chevron Synthetic THF....somewhere!
However, given all of the circumstances I ran up on and in speaking with the dealer and the factory rep I decided to use the REGULAR UDT....simply due to the climate here in NE Alabama. You are a bit north of me in TN an still, I would use reg udt if I had been where you are. Now where the temp is below freezing and stays there for much of the winter I would use Sudt or equilivant...depending on the warranty.
How many hrs is on your tractor??? How many yrs old...etc.
There...hope that helps.... Tim
