I don't think anything is dead-headed, as the pump or something would blow, or the relief would stay on all the time, and heat up the fluid big time.

If you make up a hyd test gage set, we can help you track down the problem. A hyd flow gage would be nice, but too expensive for the majority of tractor owners.

Do you know who wired up the light on the solenoid? You can install a nice LED indicator for few bucks.

I'd notice the relief the same as if I pushed the bucket into the dirt and it went into relief, right?

Solenoid light indicator is from Kubota. Messicks is looking for a wiring diagram, but can't even find a part number for that light - kubota still isn't up to speed with its M59 parts annoyingly.

No one thinks that taking the light out of the circuit could cause a problem?

Was the light always wired this way in series or did you put it that way after reassemling the switch after malfunction?

The only time the relief should come on is when you exceed the pressure set on the relief, and that means that the motor should be getting all available pressure. If the valve goes into instant relief, I would check the QD's. Stalling the hyd motor on the rake may cause the rake to go into relief. The rake itself might have a relief valve across the hyd motor to protect it, and it should be tested also.

You say it is running slow, so it may be running at pressure, but little GPM's, which determines speed.

There is another reason for the rake to turn slow, and that is the wear and tear on the motor, If it has been used a lot, the motor may be worn and bypassing fluid.

GOT IT!!!!!

I want to thank you all for your help. It was really useful in understanding things, and I honestly wouldn't have had the first idea without this site. (I was talking to mechanics too, btw). JJ - in particular I want to thank you for all I've learned from you on many threads about hydraulics, and the effort you put on this
In the end, more or less my stupidity. I'm not sure how to assign blame to myself, since I wouldn't even have known what to look for if not for you guys.

It was a tractor side hydraulics issue. M59 was behaving more or less normally, and was lugging at 800rpm a bit, and never used to do that. A bit of a whine, too, not a full relief whine, but reminiscent.

Suddenly occurred to me what to check. When you take off the backhoe on the m59, there are 2 levers which slide in and out, setting the hydraulics to the backhoe or the 3pt. They are supposed to be all the way out for the 3pt. One of them had been knocked a little in by a remote hose. Must have taken out half the flow or so.

Pulled it out, ran the rockhound, and its perfect.

So now checking those levers before startup is on the checklist. Bet this happens to another m59 owner at some point, Kubota should have set it up so the levers are out for the backhoe rather - ie reversed, as something is much more likely to bump them with 3pt use.

Man, that's a relief. Pun acknowledged...

Charles, glade that you found out what it was and that it was so simple. :D Now you know of another thing that has to be checked on when changing things around. ;)

yep.

The time wasted was painful, but at least I figured it out before I started replacing everything in the hydraulic system, one part at a time.

Glad you got it fixed! Id still fix up the light if the wiring is suspect, just to eliminate any future issues

Yeah, I agree - I'm planning on it. Its been tough for messicks to find the part number, but I think they've got it now.

My electrical tape bandage is going to give out at the most annoying possible time otherwise I bet.

I ordered a Fluke multimeter in this process - don't need it now, but I bet I'll be glad to own it.
