hydraulic hoses

I don't believe a small to medium size operation can justify the inventory investment in reels of hose and a BUNCH of fittings( and probably still not the right one). Most of my farm machinery uses either 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 inch hose.
I have invested in having a 6ft, 12ft, and 18ft hose made in each of the three diameters with female #8 jic ends on each hose. I then purchased about $100 in various adapters. So far, I've used these spare hoses at least
6 times (on a weekend while baling, mowing hay, or bush hogging) to keep me going until I had the time to get the proper replacement hose made up.
Twice, I did not have the proper adapter needed and as a result was "down" until Monday. It's really like having a spare belt for the round baler.

the reason i ask i am curious if the farmer would be interested in purchasing bulk coil of hydraulic hose and fittings and then when a hose blows cut the hose to length and bring the right fittings to anybody locally that has a crimper that can crimp up a hose for you. it would save the customer a lot of money

i have seen bulk hydraulic hose and fittings on an online website that sells hose and fittings this way and i was wondering would farmers buy hose this way.

for example princess auto has a chain of stores in canada and they sell bulk hydraulic hose and i was wondering who they sell it to

i was just wondering if there is much usage of hydraulic hose for any given farm

A better solution is to purchase adapter fittings that wil couple to NPT hoses
which can be purchased at reasonable prices at farm supply stores. I have
found a sorce for these on the web, but cannot remember their their name
(CRS disease).

I think there is a happy medium that can be reached between stocking reels and lots of fittings and having to buy them as you need them. Many of our suppliers will sell hose in coil prices (50' or 100'), much cheaper than by the foot and only a bit more than by the reel.
Hose ends and adapters are a bit tough and it depends on how much and what type of equipment you are using. If the equipment uses all JIC then you can get away with a minimal investment, but if you start to head into mixtures of BSP, metric, or NPT and Oring boss the variety, cost and space can be overwhelming.

I don't think any hydraulic shop resells that cheap princess auto hose, you can get unnamed "Made in China" hose anywhere for less money if you buy the by the reel. Any hydraulic shop worth going to is going to be representing a line/brand of hose.

I found a link for JIC to NPT adapters.
Hydraulic Hose Adapters: Metric, Brass, Stainless Steel from Adapters Inc. - 6506 Female Pipe x Female JIC Swivel - Straight

6506-06-08 (3/8" OD) Female JIC to Female NPT
List Price: $7.54
Internet Price: $3.17

On my Kubota with a Long 4 way loader bucket, I just purchased some JIC to
NPT adapters and 3/8" hose with NPT ends from Agri Supply. This was about
half (or less) than the price of a hose with crimped JIC ends. Now if the
hose is damaged, I just have to replace the hose, since the adapters will
still be OK:tractor:

We just got an order from a farmer for 200 hoses. all as stock for replacements when a hose blows on his implements.
all 1/2 inch hoses 1/2npt ends.

i guess you guys that don't use many hoses are not real farmers. especially around Wayne county, PA

A fairly big hose making shop told me once, that you get the best out of a hose with crimped fittings the quicker you start using it...a hose with crimped fittings "last" longer if put into duty immediately...he did not recommend stocking crimped hoses over a longer time, even if that would increase his sale and revenue....
If that is the case, this farmer is always going to blow hoses....:confused2:

I can see that rubber ages and cracks over time....oil inside should have a preservative effect on inside liner, and prevent rubber from cracking/"oxidizing"....like rubber in tires....

What is your take on that statement?? Is there any validity into it?

Is this a slam on our buddy WCH .......:confused2:........

Making up tons of 1/2 hose should cover all his needs.......they do only make 1/2 hoses with 1/2 npt for hydraulics right..??.....:anyone:
