I've never owned chickens, so maybe this is a dumb question, but what is the reason for a mobile chicken coop?

I've never owned chickens, so maybe this is a dumb question, but what is the reason for a mobile chicken coop?

Chickens get fresh grass and they fertilize the old grass. Chickens take the ground down to bare dirt after about two weeks. Also, big bonus is not having to clean the coop, just move it to a new location.

Most mobile coops that can be moved by hand are too small and not very predator proof. When you go bigger they get too heavy to move without equipment. Hence, a chicken tractor designed for use with tractors.

I Might could understand If you were moving daily .but once a week to turn a jack handle 20 times on each side...... Just build a cheater bar to fit and a piece of chain with a notch . lift one side and then the other but it is manual labor so i"m sure that is out of the equation if jacks are too much work.

Is there any need to lift it? Can you have the wheels permanently attached holding it an inch or 2 off the ground?

What if you put each wheel on an A-arm and had them fold up like the front wheels on a pulling sled?
If you mounted the A-arms behind the rear of the coop, you could get away with one cylinder in the center that would push them apart and down at the same time.

Alternatively, you could just put both wheels on a solid swing axle behind the coop and pivot the entire axle assembly down with one or more cylinders.

it does not have to be complicated. a cable and a couple of pulleys and the tractor hooked to the belly bar and the cable hooked to the lift arms but it requires getting off the tractor and raising the hitch a little. HeII i would just put wheels on all 4 corners and use heavy belting to seal it to the ground but thats just me ,.......................................................

Or Just use skids .

Simplest idea (other than skids)...

Permanently mount the wheels behind the coop and firmly touching the ground (but not enough to lift the coop). Then, when you lift the front with the 3pt, it will tilt back and be riding on the wheels.
