The one I demo'ed had chain drive and it worked good but
w/ time and wear I got price on direct drive unit.
The auger is the HD w/ replaceable tip and teeth.
It has a brace to carry head when rotated up so
it doesn't swing everywhere and have to carry it
w/ bucket 6 or 8' off ground.

It looks like some of the hydraulic PHD units are nothing more than 3PH gear boxes with hydraulic motors where the PTO shaft is. It looks like an enterprising person could rig one of these up pretty cheaply if they already had a HD 3PH PHD and a welder/cutting torch.

One of the reasons for attaching a HPHD to a loader bucket is to be able to add weight by filling the bucket but if you have a skid steer type attachment it should be pretty easy to rig it up to attach to the bucket if the need ever arises.

On a tractor u will have more weight than
my skid loader has on the front anyway.
The augers are built different on these,
they have individual teeth (like small hoe teeth)
and 6" or so center tooth to really cut in.
They have carbide teeth to cut concrete and asphault too.
One could be made but the PHD needs the
large hex drive output for the HD augers.
It's nice on it's plate then u can switch back and forth
w/ bucket full of limestone 411 to back fill.
