MossRoad - That's a great video! How big is the reservoir for your brush mower motor? How fast can you mow through tall grass and weeds?

Actually, a company called Franklin Brush cutters makes large cylindrical drum with cutters... ( looks like a tiller kinda ) that is made to be mounted on front end loaders.. though generally larger ones.. like construction equipment... They can be used to chew brush down to the ground, and cut down another 6" or so into the ground.. very usefull for landclearing.

The whole tractor is hydraulic. No transmissions, differentials, ranges, nothing. It is just an engine turning three hydraulic pumps. One pump is for the the drive system and there are two PTO pumps. The main PTO pump provides 8GPM at 2500PSI to power implements like the brush hog, mower, snowblowers, etc... the hydraulic fluid is just 10W40 motor oil, nothing special. The tractor has a 10 gallon reservoir for everything; the drive system, PTOs, lift arms and steering. It also has a hydraulic oil cooler with electric fan. This seems to do the job very well, as I have operated in hot weather working the tractor very hard hauling granulated limestone over long distances at top speed.

As for how fast can I mow? Those weeds in the video were not too tough. I mowed about a hundred yards down and back in that video and it took about 2 minutes.

Here's another link to a time lapse video of me clearing that field. It shows the progress and you can see the front mower just pushing stuff over and eating it.

Heck, here's a link to all my videos so you can see for yourself the beauty of front mounted implements, be it on a Power Trac or any tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If the liability was that high, I do not think Bobcat/IR would have decided to produce them.

Looking at the catalog I have here, it does not it has some height sensing device that shuts the mower down when it raises up.

If you counter weight effectively, it should not be a major issue. Over the years on this forum, many poeple have made counter weights so they could use thier loader without having to use a scraper or other implement as a counter-weight.

Look at those Skid Steers; they say right in the manuals to back up steep hills if there is no load in the bucket, else it will roll over backwards. Thier engine is in the rear, so they can balance out large attachments on the front.

How difficult would it be to put a power-trac adapter onto the loader arms. That would open the door to a lot of new toys as well. All you would have to do is supply hydraulic from a pto pump, and the loader arms could work like the arms on the pt, right?

From my limited experience, if I had a standard tractor on which I wanted to put powered implements on the FEL arms, I'd go with a bobcat quick attach system.

Here's my reasons.

First, I have no idea how you could get a hold of just the tractor(male) side of a Power Trac quick attach. It is an integral part of the lift arms.

Second, there are several sizes of Power Tracs, and they all use different sizes of hitches. You'd have to figure out which one to get.

Third, the availability of hydraulically powered implements for skid steers is good. The availability of Power Trac implements is great if you are buying new, but there is slim to none on the used market.

I hope this helps.

By the way, I personally wish that Power Trac would get into the 3pt hitch quick attach business. They have a great system that lines up and attaches implements very fast.
