Well, I went to work and we all got sent home due to sever weather. I'll be home all day and nothing to do:( I might go to NH website and take a look at the hydro set up. I don't believe you have any screen there but will verify. You need to go and use NH website, they have complete parts breakdown on all system. it is an invaluable resource.

JC,

HA...Im on their site right now. Looking at the hydraulic system, there doesnt seem to be a screen.

Just called NH. A new pump is 298.00. I figured I was in for a $700 fix. For $300 I might just go ahead and replace it...um...when the weather gets better that is.

hmm, $298 seems more than reasonable:confused: are you sure you got the price for your main hydraulic pump? design of gear driven pump is simple and robust and If the pump gears and inside case not damage then there is no reason not to overhaul for the cost of gasket kit. For me , I got to get to the bottom of it, hate to put a brand new pump and find out problem lies somewhere else. at the least I do a post-mortem on the old pump for clues. there might be tell tale signs.

JC,

Wood butcher,

I just went to NH site. it does not appear that you have any screen such as what I have on my 1700. You have spin-in cartridge as you know. I see 3 different flavors of hyd pump. although they look a bit different, in geometry and operation are pretty much identical. They very closely mimic my 1700's hyd pump. I'd make sure to get the right part if I were to do it myself. There will be no return on used gasket set that does not fit. NH would be your best bet to get the right part. I'd double check the $300 price for the pump. I'd make sure it is not the power steering pump they are talking about. It shows two separate and different pumps , one for Power steering and other one hyd pump ( 3 point, remote and loader).

I gave the guy the SN for my tractor and told him it had a 7108 loader. He double checked it & said it was $298. I will have to take the hydro lines off and see what's going on and do some more investigation before I run out and buy a pump. I've got a sneaking suspicion there's a big ole pile of sludge somewhere. Lack of flow could have damaged the pump and made it weaker. I wish I would have run the seafoam in it before I drained it. That may have thinned the gunk up a bit.

The thing that sticks in my head is what a beating this is going to be with that loader in the way. Anything I try to do, the loader keeps me from reaching it. Here's a funny thing...my wife says "why don't you just lift those arms up?" I said "that would be great if my hydraulics worked." I guess I could unhook it and back away from it. :) Ive never unhooked one...so i don't know if that's an option.

The WIX filter was about $30 so no...I didn't save much money on it. There is a NH dealer about 50 yards from where I work. I should have just gone down there to get a NH filter.

I would not be surprised if Wix makes the NH filters.
I have the same tractor with a GB loader, I have no problems with the hydaulics. I am courious as to how many hours you have on the one?

I assume it's the original filter as there are no markings or numbers on it and its painted the same color as the tractor and it had some rust on it. The tractor has 1200 hrs on it. It's a 90 model tractor so that means its been on there for 20 years. Some people shouldn't be allowed to own tractors if they're not going to take care of them. :)

I've been looking through your posts and that is more issues I would expect for a 1200 hour tractor, but once you get them straight you'll have plenty of service life left. Hope you got a good deal.
I would definetly get fresh coolant and oil in that engine if you haven't already. I found that I can get all of the filters from Amazon shipped to me for about half what the dealer would charge. Let me know if you need a link.

That's one of the first things I did to it when it arrived. I drained all of the coolant, flushed the entire system and put fresh back in. I also changed the oil and filter. I greased every zerk I could find. I've since found some underneath that I didn't see originally. The tractor came from Houston. It had a little more rust on it than I figured it would but it's all fixable with a sandblaster and some fresh paint. The tractor was advertised with the stuck clutch so I knew that getting into it. I paid $6800 for it. Sounded like a good deal to me...a 32HP tractor with a loader. It does have a few issues and some cosmetic blemishes as well but I am confident after I get all of the kinks out she'll be a great tractor for quite some time. Thanks again for your posts. I appreciate everyone's help. As I dig into this hydraulic problem more I'll take pics and document what I do so others can benefit.

I bet this tractor was in a flood and that is the main reason the owner was getting rid of it. Everything about this thread reeks of flood damage. With water in the pump the pump could have been damaged by freezing. I think if I was you id just go ahead and replace that pump if you have a decent price on it. I would check over everything else with a fine tooth comb as well. Check the fuses and make sure they don't have any corrosion as well.
