I have been reading all I can about the hydraulic top link and I have decided that I want one for my BX 22, however the more that I read, the more I get confussed. I found this thread and it seems quite concise and shows the correct top link cylinder. I know that the BX 22 does have the hydrolic lines in the rear and I know that I have to add a valve to complete the curcuit. I just don't know the correct valve that needs to be used. I think that it is a open center with power beyond, but I am not certain. How about some of the experianced people jumping in here and helping a novice? I know very little about the plumbing of this, so all the help and description will be needed... thanks Junkman.... link to TBN post that shows the cylinder for a Cat 1... 3 pt hitch...

As a minimum you will need a valve, hoses, connectors and a cylinder. The valve size will depend on the flow rate. From other posts it has been determined that the flow rate for a BX2200 is 3.7 gpm. We can probably assume that the BX22 is close or the same.

Assuming the BX has a flow of 3.7 gpm, you could get a Eaton-Cessna 3 spool valve (or a 1 or 2 spool for slightly less $$) with 5 gpm flow from the Surplus Center catalog with a power beyond sleeve for about $250. This valve has a foot print that is just under 7x7 inches and most importantly, comes with a relief valve. All you would need is fittings and hoses which can be purchased locally rather inexpensively. I would not buy the expensive Kubota kit.

Connecting the valve to the BX is probably similar to the BX2200. Look back 2 weeks or so in Kubota Owning/Operating for a series of posts on this subject. Just make sure the 3 lines are connected corectly, line-in, line-out to tank, and power beyond.

The valve does not need to have power beyond, in fact I'd recommend not getting PB due to all of the extra plumbing involved. What you need is a multi spool valve that needs to be open center and flow at least 5 gpm. You could add a 3 spool valve be it a mono-block or sectional valve. You could have 2 of the spools be double acting, 1 with float, then have the 3rd valve be a motor control(detents for all positions). That way you can use the 2 double acting spools for Top'n Tilt, and the 3rd valve to power the BH or a log splitter. This is simple to add if you already have the rear hydraulic source found on the BX22. All you need to do is mount your valve(s) to the ROPS then using quick couples connect the IN port line on the valve to the IN line of the rear hydraulics and the OUT to the OUT and your done. I have a BX2200 and added the rear hydraulics to power a BH I made.

thanks to everyone that answered. Now I need to find a valve. I did have one that was going to be used for a log splitter, but I have no idea of its type, so that one is out for now. Any suggestions for a single valve part number that isn't expensive? I am only going to use this for the top link...... thanks again.. The Junkman

Stackable valves are nice but are not typically available in the 5 gpm range, just 10 gpm and above. The Eaton-Cessna mono-block valves available are a little more compact since footprint size does matter on a BX.

I decided on the Prince SV series stackable 12 gpm valve, 3 spools, relief valve, power beyond, with seperate input and output sections for use on my B2710. Flow rate (and physical weight) is overkill but the actual footprint is just over 8x8 inches.

How 'bout some pics of that setup? Also, Tomnky posted a .pdf file of the Kubota parts list for this setup -- should be helpful to y'all.

Junkman,

In your attachment, you show a cylinder with ball end rod attachments. Just curious where you got that type of cylinder with those end attachments.

thanks
Duane

The picture of the top link cylinder junkman attached is the one that CCI sells.

I got an e mail from Mark at CCM today advising me that they are out of the top links and that they don't expect to have them back in stock till sometime in December 2003. Still haven't figured out the correct valve to use..... so many choices..... so little knowledge..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
