hydraulics. any rules of the thumb? do or don'ts?

Just kinda curious about this. Is there skyway a thread for this? ? Couldn't find any. Or and advise you guys would give??
I'm not new to hydraulics bit not even close to a expert like some of you.

I will be using them in the next year's to come more and more.

One cardinal rule if you are making up pipe threaded fittings; NEVER use teflon tape. I use a teflon paste and leave the first thread bare. A small piece of tape in the system can wreck havoc and be very difficult to find where it is stuck. Also do not use it on any other threads for the same reasons. Remember pipe compound is primarily a lubricant to prevent galling. Sealant is its secondary role especially for gases and high pressure liquids. The tapered pipe thread does the sealing when made up properly. "OLD" pipe fitter talkin here.

Hydraulics is a huge topic, best thing I could suggest is to go to Eaton / Vickers website and read till your hearts content! When you get a idea post it up and I am sure you will find help here. I have been doing it for a living 20 years + now and I am still learning, hopefully until I retire! As far as the pipe tape/dope debate, I use both. CJ

There's still the whole open center vs. colsed center thing I'm trying to grasp and remember which is which and some of the terms. I'd like to see a good tractor hydraulic schematic to review, also.

Yea, I am starting to do a lot with the local road commission trucks and the newer ones are set up like this. Always learning. CJ
