On my YM1500 when I tip my bucket up it lugs the engine so much that it would die if I didn't give it a second break to catch up. Lifting the entire bucket doesn't do this, only tipping it up.

I've been using it in cold weather, and I think it is a bit better when warm oil circulates up to the front, but still it lugs pretty badly. I just got it working, so I haven't had an opportunity to see how it acts in warm weather.

Any idea where I should start figuring out why this is?

Thanks,
Jeff

When was the last time you changed the fluid and spin on filter and cleaned the wire mesh filter on your machine? I assume your Yanmar is like mine and has a wire mesh filter that I think I recall is accessed on the transmission housing.

Are you using the correct weight of fluid for your current operating temperatures?

Just some guesses to start with.

If it is only on the tilt and not the lift, then I would not believe the filter is the culprit otherwise both circuits would create the same lugging effect.

My guess would tend to lean to (perhaps) water in the tilt cylinders or contaminent of some sort in that circuit.

Did you blow the lines clear before hooking up?--you did say new installation, I believe.

I just bought it and the loader wasn't working at all. I pulled out the screen filter and it had disintegrated. I also found some loose fittings in the bucket that were leaking. I tightened everything, blew out the return line, cleaned out the gear box, installed a new screen filter, and the loader worked!

Then winter hit hard and I haven't really been able to put the loader through its paces. Maybe it's something that will work itself out??? I wasn't aware of a spin on filter other than the standard oil filter. Is there one on the 1500?

I do have the right trans-hydraulic fluid in it. I checked first to be sure before I put it in.

Thanks for the ideas.

Jeff

Is it posssible some of that made it inside the valve that operates the loader ?

Is it doing it on curl or dump or both? Often there is a regenerative circuit on dump that connects both the in and out cyl ports together at the FEL valve. With equal pressure on both sides, the hi area side of the cyl dominates and you get a faster more controlled dump and without the cavitation in the cyl that would normally happen with heavy bucket loads. It may be that there is a problem caused by debris in this circuit. Also, try curling to the bucket stop. Does the same lug down happen as soon as you hit the stop but not before? If so, be sure you check that your relief valve is working and set correctly. Be careful. You could be deadheading your pump. Experiment at idle.

Larry, you're speaking a language I don't know very well. I know almost nothing about hydraulics.

The bucket seems to only bog down on the curl, not the dump. The lug happens the entire way up before I even hit the stop. I haven't tried bottoming it out on the stop, but as soon as I get a chance I will try that to see if the pressure is relieved at that point.

Thanks!

jeff ,don't believe your 1500 has a spin on h.filter.

You can try to swap a few things around to see where the problem is. Is it possible to swap the hydraulic lines so that the tip and lift are swapped? If the curl is still trouble, then it's the cylinder. If the problem moves to the lift, then it's the valves. The curl side moves about 50% more fluid than dump. Could be clogged cylinder, return hose, or valves. Just an idea.
