Opening or closing the valve didn't affect the performance.

I've removed all the piping to make sure nothing was clogged. It's good.

As I was draining the oil, it looks bad. Here's a pic.

Repost your pictures.
Where was the oil drained from?

This oil was pulled from the under the axle where the large return pipe mounts to the housing. I know the proper way to drain, but I was only making sure that the pipe was clear, and it was.
I'll finish draining tonight from underneath with the proper plugs removed. This brings two questions:

1. Is there any type of "hydraulic conditioning" that can be used.
2. How can you clean out any sediments / gunk in the bottom of the case?

Can you dip a paint stirring stick or what ever into the oil and show us a picture. It looks like a major algae contamination.

You will need to flush the reservoir with diesel fuel only. You will also need to replace the filter, I don't believe there is a inlet screen on your model.

If your hydraulic fluids are not completely clear there is a problem. This contamination could have been seen on the dipstick.

Your blockage was a clogged filter.
Cavitation occurs when the inlet of your pump becomes restricted. This creates a vacuum so large that the oil physically boils into a gas. When this mixture of gas and liquid pass through the pump it sounds like buzzing from the pump. Its quite loud and can be heard over engine noise. You probably didn't notice this because it occurred gradually.

On the above post I want you to take a picture of any globs or varying color of the oil.

It will be a few days, but I'll get you the information. Never heard of "algae contamination", if you're being serious.

I'll finish draining the case (properly). How much diesel do you put in? Fill er up? And how long to soak before draining?

I'll get you some pics of the final oil drain, and any aliens that drop out.

Thanks. This is a great post.

I’m thinking either bacteria or algae contamination. You will have to open your oil filter to determine. Bacteria’s are usually black and smell rancid and algae’s are light in color, creates fibers and makes globs. Either way a biocide will kill both.

Both of these contaminates need water to grow. You need to determine how water has entered the system. Rain water down the shifter levers, condensation or pressure washer are some of the likely sources.

Before you fill the trans case with diesel you should remove the 4 bolt cover that the banjo fitting you removed was attached. This will give you better access to clean the sump. The sump crud will most likely need to be ladled out.

Ideally circulating the diesel is the best way to clean out the reservoir. You could do a bucket brigade using McMaster Carr # 2640K58 100 Micron filter bags and then finish with fresh diesel.

SInce I've owned the tractor, it has not been exposed to water. I bought the tractor about a year ago. When I bought it, i changed all the fluids, and it's kept in a covered shed. No water.
Now, there could have been an algae contamination reviving over time...maybe. I've replaced several filters. My thoughts were that the tractor most likely sat outside prior to my purchase.
What biocide or treatment would best, or would the diesel flush take care of the problem? I never thought it would get this complicated.
