I've done some searching and didn't find what I was looking for on the forum. So here it goes. Tractor Supply has Traveler and Harvester.. I think are the names of Hydro fluid. Universal.. type. Are these recommended/ok to use in a TC33DX?

Thanks

Look in your manual and see what fluid your machine takes.. It will have a number like M2C134D.. etc.

then look for that number on the oil you are looking at.. see if they are 'equivalent'.. etc.

I had a NH1920 and I used traveler TSC UTF all the time in it.. I have a NH7610s and use the wally-world UTF in it.. etc..

Beefarmer,

I have used TSC Hydraulic Oil on my tractor but here in Canada they obtain it from a different source......called Valvoline. I would expect the Traveler & Harvester oil would be fine as long as it specifically states it can be used for Tractors etc. Also, I don't think TSC would stock hydraulic oil that was not compatible for most tractors.

Just my two cents.

TSC routinely stocks a whole bunch of oils that have no business in a TC33. Comparing specs is the only way to be sure.

Ditto that!

Just fishing for a learnings here. So hydraulic oil specifically stating its for tractors may not necessarily be OK for any tractor. (Just speaking SCUT's & CUT's here). I just find that hard to believe but coming from either one of you I have to respect your experience.

So what can go wrong if the specs are not exactly like NH's. Were talking what.....temperature, pressure ratings. Found this excerpt on the net.

"Hydraulic Oil is formulated to withstand a wide variety of temperatures and has additives that control its reaction to the rubber seals and plastic parts found in the components of the system. A wrong oil type can cause o-ring swelling and dissolve seals."

Anything else that can go wrong besides ??

For the big 3 & some of the other brands that are slowly gaining market share, I would think the rubber seals & plastic parts are the same material. (I know. Big guess here & I don't normally like assuming) Further, even if the rubber or plastic used was slightly different between Manufacturer's, would Hydraulic Oil still not be compatible ?

I wish they would have qualified the last statement in the quote above, "A wrong oil type can cause o-ring swelling and dissolve seals."

Are they comparing different Hydraulic Oils or comparing Hydraulic Oil to Lubricating Oils, etc.

Dazed & Perplexed,

No offense, but there's nothing to be dazed and perplexed about. :) The simplest thing to do is read the Operator's Manual to see what specifications the hyd fluid has to meet. Then check the instructions on whatever fluid you are considering buying. If there's a match, you're OK. If the NH specification is not mentioned, do not buy the fluid. The fluid at the store should clearly list specifications by tractor manufacturer. If it doesn't, or New Holland isn't mentioned, don't buy it.

What everyone keeps telling you.. look in your manual.. find the lube spec for each oil you need.. match that up to one o f the bottles / pails on the shelf.. then you know you are good to go.

Some tractors don't like certain oils. Go down to the chinese sub.. their chinese hydraulic system for some reason DO NOT like the UTF that many other tractors commonly use.. so the chinese tractor owners are using plain hyd oil.. like aw32.. etc. It DOES make a difference.

I've read my manual twice now or more and don't see where it says the specs of what to use other than the new holland brand NH134. I don't have a shop manual maybe that is where it is specific.. otherwise I am not seeing any cross references or specs.

You don't supose the Nh134 might have anything to do with the M2C134 spec that has been repeatedly quoted here do you?

Granted I don't have your manual to reference.. but my NH7610s manual, in the rear o fthe book, on lubrication spells out each lube specification .. etc.. m2c134D for my trans/diff/hyds.. etc.. etc..
