/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifI'm impressed... No useful hints, but after looking at your pics, I just have to get me one of those "fancy" garages with a CEMENT floor.

I saw here on TBN... I can do that.... How hard can it be... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i gotta tell ya TCboomer, being a half-butt mechanic myself, i give ya a lotta credit for tackling this thing. one of the reasons i buy new is so i don't have to do this stuff. my hat is off too ya. nice job and good luck. keep us posted on the reassembly.

May I suggest adding some aggregate and sand to that with just a smidgen of water to bind it all together... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well guys

...it's not as bad as you think. Taking this apart was nothing more than unbolting several components. Plus having the hoist made the job a piece of cake. The toughest part was finding enough plugs and caps to seal all the open lines. I brought home a box of them, but still had to scrounge around for a few more.

The seal kit is on order, and as soon as I get it and also find out if I can remove the hub without further disassembly, I'll put it back together. I'll shoot more pics if anyone wants.

I'd like to know how you got this far and the garage floor still looks good /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I would have used up a full bag of oil dry by this point /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Even though I drained it first, I still made a mess in a few places /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The trick to keeping the floor clean is to wipe up the oil ASAP and use a little carb cleaner.

Holy cow..TCBoomer. The only thing I can say is that it is a great thing I am not doing this work. Cause the next step would be 'FOR SALE TC24DA Parts' I would never be able to get it back together. Do you have a shop manual? I must admit it would be nice to have the confidence and ability to take on this project.

Good Luck. I will keep checking back for updates.

What a week it's been.... I found the tool I needed and took the hub off. Sure enough, the seal is soaked. You can see the puddle of oil in front of the seal. See the attachment.

That was the good news.
The bad news...no seal kit available in the US! Yeah, like I'm supposed to believe that?!! What I was told was the kit is on backorder(no stock in the US) and the expected release date is the end of the month. Then I was told that if >>If I paid the freight<< the kit could be ordered ov'nite. "SAY WHAT?????? Bad enough I tear this thing down myself, now you people expect me to pay the express freight? What ever...order it, I'll cover the freight and deal with that issue later".

Now I'm told that the kit will not be shipped from overseas until the *18th*!!. This is getting truly ridiculous... so for now, I asked NH to pull one from the assembly plant and I'll have to wait until Monday to find out. What a joke...What a stinkin joke this has turned out to be. I should of have canceled this deal back when I first learned my TC21D wasn't fixed, and not traded it in. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

At this point, I'll have to wait until I actually have a seal in my hand before I remove the failed one. The shaft spins true and straight, so unless it's scored or nicked, the seal is at fault. Even though it leaks, the tractor will still operate if I have to reassemble it. NH is going to have to do something pretty substantial for me if they expect to keep me as a customer...and they know it too!
