We had a small mom and pop military surplus store here and I traded out work on his vehicles for mre's and I bought a bunch also @ $15-20 a case. I ended up with 50 cases of mid 90's dates with heaters and several cases of bread that is excellent also.

Even after 10+ years past the expiration dates the cheese and chocolates are messed up the food value is still there the ham slice is my favorite and cheesy potatoes and ham second they are perfect condition. I think I still have around 45 cases give or take for 2 of us to live on. yumm

CD. I didn't know they would last that long. That is a good plan. I used to get them from my brother in law who was in the reserves. They are actually quite tasty. Only downside was they bind you up a bit. Love the mini Tabasco bottles. I think I'll look into getting some.

I agree there is probably quite a few buttons its my belief also. I am almost 100% sure we detonated EMP bombs over Iraq could be mistaken but I believe thats what I read about. You probably know what I am talking about better than I do?...

I don't know if I know better, but what I have read makes it seem likely that EMP weapons were used in Iraq. Twice and maybe in Yugoslavia as well. The latest AESA radar supposedly can be configured to focus radiation and generate EMP like effects on targets. There have been reports of French, US, UK and Chinese weapons using conventional and nuke explosives to set up the EMP. EMP warheads have been built to fit on 155 shells.

I researched the lifetimes of MREs a few years ago. What I found out was the nutrition in the MREs would remain viable for decades. Taste and texture for a few years to maybe a decade.

Beans and rice in five gallon containers would be cheaper, and if sealed right, might last far longer. Amazon sells them as well. :)

I thing it is good that some people be prepared. It is not for everybody of course. I wish we had more supplies. My wife thinks 3 days is enough.

Bob, does that 3 days make your wife a pessimist or optimist?

She is a realist. If things are not looking up after 3 days, then we just give up.

Sounds about right.

I dunno...the is a Sci Fi movie called " The Mist " and all these folks are attacked by these monsters from a parallel time zone....about 6 of the people escape in a jeep from the grocery store where they had all gathered and they drove and drove until they ran out of gas...they had a revolver and it only had 5 bullets in it but yet there were 6 of them...They decided to give up....So the driver, the leader shot each one of the other 5, among them were his family members...and he was out of bullets and stunned but then all of a sudden out of the mist came help, the Army....had they just been patient and tried to persevere a little longer they would all be alive...he could not stand the fact that he had killed them for nothing....Never ....Ever....Give UP !

Actually I agree with you. I really doubt my wife would give up. She is very stuborn. She is also very careful with money.

I don't think beans and rice would help much without a heat source to cook them and water. Most hardcore survivalist say water will be the problem if a catastrophic event happens. Even MREs would need some type liquid to wash down. But we as humans cannot exist without water, no water and stockpiles of food would be useless. So food supplies beyond three to seven days in the event a catastrophic event occurs would probably not insure or prolong our existence.

Anything requiring refrigeration would spoil. But I have a generator some will say and a well, good but where is the fuel to power the generator going to come from.

seems like diesels of older technology would run.. and similar mechanical devices that did not rely upon spark ignition.

pushing the button would make planes fall out of the sky.

doesn't sound like nice thing to do..
