I am about to buy a used skid steer, what brands should I avoid?

It’s about $500 a day for rent and delivery for a CTL here. Surly you can get a few minutes use for free in the dealers lot. I’d rather just buy one. If you rent 3 demo machines that’s $1500 gone. If you paid a good price to start with and you decide you hate it you shouldn’t loose any money to sell it again. And if it was a used machine I’d want an hours use in its natural terrain not a parking lot to make sure there’s no unforeseen problems.
I would ask the dealer to credit the rental to the purchase of the machine if I ended up liking it. Many will do that as it does not cost them much out-of-pocket.

If buying from a dealer, I would negotiate an onsite demo period. Buying used from some guy, that usually doesnt happen (but can). I would prefer to tie up the $500 in a rental (I would get 8 hours use and see if I like) vs. $20K waiting to unload something I dont like.

Nothing works good in mud. Mud ends up being nothing but a headache, leave it alone and wait for it to dry. If we cant avoid working with it, we bring in an excavator and work from outside to in trying to keep the ex out of the mud. That almost always ends up with an overdig that ends up costing extra. I’ll only do it when the person paying the bills signs off on the extra charges.

Wheel loaders are better than most give them credit for. Aux functions run grapples, augers, etc. They don’t do high flow but go up to 30+gpm. Some of them are/can be plumbed for a backhoe on the rear. Articulation makes them more stable on slopes than most would think too. What platform do quite a few feller/butchers use?
