Just about the same situation here - Bird. The laws on fireworks change by the year, the county, the city and the political leanings of the party in power at the time. Just like our hunting and fishing laws.

Its rather a strange situation - everybody acknowledges that fireworks do cause fires and do cause personal injuries. Yet - some counties completely outlaw sale and use and some are wide open.

Many, many years ago, the City of Dallas outlawed fireworks. So the fireworks stands set up just outside the city limits. And I can remember a time when the Fire Marshall and his employees would sit just inside the city limits and watch fireworks stands with binoculars. When someone bought fireworks and came back into the city, they'd stop that person, confiscate the fireworks and issue the buyer a citation that was treated about the same as a traffic ticket. I have no idea whether such things are still being done.

Indiana legalized most fireworks in 2006. Here's the injury report...

Injuries dropped dramatically for several years once they were legalized.... but there's been a steady uptick in the last few years.

Fireworks are legal to buy in Ohio, but illegal to set them off. They have you sign a paper saying you are going to take them out of state. In our area, law enforcement doesn't try to track every firework that is set off. That is unless you're being reckless or a complaint is filed.

Steve, the only trouble with those sites is that they are talking about states primarily, and as far as I know, the State of Texas has never outlawed fireworks, but many cities have.

Fireworks annoy me. I expect fireworks on Independence day and New Years eve.

What annoys me is the people around here that set off 3 to 5 fireworks every night for 2 weeks leading up to those 2 special times.

I'm just falling asleep.....then....BOOM!

Dogs are barking, cats running for cover, wife telling me to go tune up the neighbors.

I understand they are having fun, it is just disruptive and annoying for me.

Whenever I see a roadside fireworks stand I think of the fireworks scene from the movie "Joe Dirt."

I think of flaming arrows and tracer bullets, and wonder why there is not more arson.

Two of my Grandsons work at a fireworks store that sells to out of State residents year around. Markup is sinful. I ggave them $200 last year. Buying at cost we had a nonstop show for over an hour.

Where I grew up in northern ID, it was just five miles to the MT line, where there was a roadside tavern on the Montana side. Ellis always set up a fireworks table at the back of the bar and catered to the 9B and 7B plates that came over for stuff we couldn't have in Idaho.
Oregon is even worse, so naturally there is a thriving market for the illicit stuff that is readily obtained in WA on the rez. I set up sprinklers and wet down the roadsides a couple days prior as we can't do a controlled burn of the dead grass along the streets that would flare up into something major if it wasn't caught right away. For not being able to have any aerials, I sure get a lot of spent casing on the roof and lawns.
