I backed over our dog today.

Sorry that happened. You cant always look out for them effectively. For ~ insurance, we train ours to be attentive and move by insistent warnings. Very old and very young we are the most careful.
,,, Our neighbor killed our older somewhat lame dog even tho he knew the ropes. He gaged vehicles and knew when to move, but he wasnt fast. We would watch for him and go around when we could. The neighbor woman too, but not so much. She didnt see him [He thot she did ... ah complacency. - He was less talented at gaging inattentiveness.] and ran right over him in a parking spot. He jumped up and ran to my wife and died at her feet. I was summoned to bury him. Best, sweetest, and most game dog weve had ... a stray.

Backed over many a cat... Dogs always got hit in the highway running after cars. Never had much of a attachment to dogs! Sleep with dogs, you get fleas.
I remember looking for a new house years ago... doggie door leading inside? No interest in going inside. Automaticaly a drive by.
