If you get steel beam, have them punch holes to bolt on a top 2x6. Nail joists to it.

No, glulams are dimension lumber laminated into larger pieces. These are floor trusses that can easily span his 24' from an LVL header across his doors.

You are correct. I should have Googled glulam BEFORE I commented and not AFTER. Thanks for the clarification!!!! :)

They also make floor trusses out of 2x4s. A contractor I worked for used them on basements at least 32' wide. they are nice for running duct work and electrical thru also. No beam needed.

GP, don't recall if I showed you any joist detail the last time you were in my 'shop'. Suspending by the top chord is common with steel Ws but it puzzled me at first to see a houseful of 21" x 28'-s done that way in wood. (43 yrs w/no issues ... well, the cobweb vacuuming every 5 or so ..)

No, I don't think we talked about it. I have not installed floor trusses but did install i-joists once.

It seems counterintuitive to hang the floor trusses like that. Cool. Thanks for the pic.

I had to take a 3rd, 4th look at the pic to see what you are talking about. Wouldn't the truss lose a lot of it's span strength hung like that??

I just did some googling. Apparently some floor trusses are designed to allow top chord hanging while others are designed to have the bottom chord on a bearing surface

Now don't ask me to clarify because I already told you more than I know.
