R4s can handle more weight. The R1s on my 6520 kinda squash down and have sidewall bulge when the 84 inch wide bucket is full. R1s are taller, which is a plus for my backhoe's subframe. My trailer is 83 inches wide and the rears rub the trailer sides. Right now my fender skins are loose from that rubbing. I want to upgrade to a flat deck dual tandem for that reason and also heavier business needs. R4s are easier on turf. I like the fact R1s have the mechanical advantage when dropped off in holes over R4s. It's that taller height thing again.;)

Thanx for the input.

I dont think I would be using the loader a lot where I would be running long distances with it fully loaded. It would be more for projects I build and to lift them would be one of the heaviest besides the occasional round bale. I really like the look of the R4s, but the fuctional purpose with the R1s I think I would be more happy with when it comes to working dirt and not having tire tracks after the implement (such as a tiller) passes. I guess I could just run the tires in the previous tracks and make the walk way. I mentioned R4s on front and R1s on back and they looked at me like I just fell out of the sky. I tell you it is amazing how wide the unit is with the R4s on it. I was thinking if I fill the tires they wouldnt squash as much since you cannot compress liquid. Hate to hear your fenders are getting loose. Deck over would solve the width problem, but the lowboy I believe I could use more and the lower center of gravity is a big plus in my book.

ToolBoxTavern,

I love my R1s. I know they have gotten me out of slimy clay before and I really think R4s would have left me lifting the tractor out with the backhoe and loader. My trailer fenders are still attached. It is the inner skin that is tack welded to the inside lip of the fenders and the trailer frame that is loose on the back end, where the tractor's rears ride.

I want to keep this trailer for farm (has farm tags) use and get a 25 foot dual tandem for commercial work. That way I won't have to put the loader bucket up on the gooseneck. The photo below shows this. My 2002 Ram 2500 with Cummins pulled it okay, but now I have a 2003 one ton dually that makes me legal in the weight area. The 2002 was only rated to pull 9800 pounds. The tractor and trailer weighs 11,700 pounds.

Happy trailer hunting!

Oh yeah.......R4s on front and R1s on back will screw with your traction/slippage .vs gear geometry in 4WD and bind your drivetrain. Which is bad jeu-jeu and tends to void your warranty.

This whole R1 or R4 thing is a bit aggravating, but I know I am going R1s. Just makes since and I believe it will suit me better since I'm wanting to set up for a bit of AG work. Large garden type deal. Just trying to set up for when I retire, but that is still 25+ years away, but we are trying to get our toys and retirement gig ready while we can and looking at a produce stand out front to supplement retirement income. Guess I maybe thinking way to far ahead. Still just cant get over the R4 look on the unit, but that aint being smart goin for looks versus functionality so I know what has to be done.

I get the gear ratio and different tire thing, but when looking at the tire sizes on the spec sheet or mahindra web site I think it would work because the R4 front it only 1/2" taller than the R1 front and the R4 rear is actually 4" shorter than the R1. So having the R4 a 1/2" taller seems like it would work better with the R1 since it is 4" taller and less of a difference between the rear and front.

I got a 2000 F250 auto 4door (family of 5 here) with a V10. Prefer diesel since I own and operate big truck and tractor will be diesel, but couldnt pass up deal on pick up. I believe my tow capacity is 13,000lbs, but I will have to look again. I actually plan on this trailer being used for farm a lot. I'm even kicking idea of making a removable livestock cage or everything above the floor like a live stock trailer that can just be removed. I think it will be kewl to have like a all in one trailer. I like that your trailer, tractor, and truck is red, but here I go with the looks again...lol.

I think I might step down to a 5ft shredder thou and stay with the 6ft tiller. I really like the unit having 167 cubic inch and NO turbo. I think it will manage the 6ft shredder, but if I get in tall brush/grass I want to be sure it will not have a problem. Not worried bout tiller since I will do some plowing or middle bustin 1st to take stress off it.

Great talkin with you.

O and I am on a run where I currently drive by the Mahindra assembly/distribution center in Houston everyday and hurts my feeling I dont have time to stop.

Well I went and measured the unit myself between waist n chest high.

R1s
71" outside to outside
43 1/2" inside to inside

R4s
85" out to out
48 1/2: in to in

trailer inside rails 82"
R1 setup offers adjustable width tho. Its a shame the R4s are set too wide. They would probably be best for sugar sand. Turfs or slicks would be even better on that stuf. Can the R4 rims be reversed?

It has to do with rolling circunference of the tires and a couple of mathe formulas. If you don't get it right you run the risk of tearing up the drive train. Not very pretty.

ToolBoxTavern,
I have seen removable livestock cages before. Neat units.
My rig is all red because the name of my business is Big RED Beast Excavators.
Great talkin' with you tool.
I am about an hour north of Mahindra's Houston headquarters.

Yes, but salesman says it will only make it 82" and shouldnt rub fenders or anything, but would be close. I got a buddy that bought a 4530 almost a year ago and 4wd 4025 is wider than his is with R4s and his does fit on trailer with R4s. I asked him if he had been spinnin tires at his place which is bout 10 miles away and he said yes. His tires are not loaded, but his tractor is heavier. I think the R4s would only be good for the floatation, but if I got 4wd the R1s should be fine. So with that said also I think I am goin for the R1s and load the rears with water and maybe the fronts.

O and also some of you may know this and I was pretty sure, but I had to check for sure because I didnt see how without changing out axles, shafts or something, but the front end is not extendable on the 4wd drive like on the 2wd (which makes sense) as stated on the Mahindra website.

Do check those numbers. They dont seem right. If the r1s are neutral front lead ratio then the tractor with r4s has a high positive lead. I agree from your spec numbers, that the slightly taller r4 front would pair well with the rear r1 ... but I question the correctness of the r1/r4 front diameters vs the r1/r4 rear diameters.

Right, I understand that and I aint gonna mess with it I was just saying from the specs it seemed it would be fine if not better.

As brochure and Mahindrausa.com states
Tire sizes - Font / Rear
R4s - 12 x 16.5 / 16.9 x 24
R1s - 9.5 x 16 / 12.4 x 28
