As many of you know from the 'Should I buy a tiller?' thread I'd been vascillating on this for a week or so. Yesterday I pulled the trigger and bought it. The dealer still gave me the 10% off on it even though technically I didn't buy it with another implement. He'd offered me 10% off on a rotary mower and tiller package last week but I opted for the mower alone. I thought he was certainly being more than fair in still extending the discount on the tiller. The bottom line is that my vascillation only 'penalized' me $55 and, quite frankly, I feel $55 better about the purchase now than I would have last week. Given the closeness of the purchases the dealer went what I thought was the extra mile, too. He told me he'd give me 10% off my next equipment, parts or service tab whenever I choose to use it in the coming year.

I was impressed on a couple of levels. Obviously I liked getting the discount to use and was impressed with that. What impressed me more than that was the way he found a way to further ingratiate and solidify me as a customer while still effectively standing by his word that the discount on the mower came only with the purchase of the additional implement with it. Truly a narrow line to walk with wanting to do something for a customer and still do what you said you'd do. I was thoroughly impressed with the business and customer service acumen in this.

Don't keep us in suspense!! What model did you get? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Congratulations are in order. Enjoy your tiller. All dealers are local dealers, utility of use and satisfaction are all any customer wants. Support your local dealer and he will be there stocking parts and servicing your equipment when you need them.

I'm sorry, Scott. I thought I'd said somewhere in the other thread (but, at my age, one can't rely on recall). Nonetheless, I bought the 60" King Kutter II gear drive model.

I considered looking at the First Choice and Midwest offerings but knew that each was notably more money even before I added shipping. When I could buy this for $900 locally with no shipping it seemed like the way for me to go. I'm of the opinion that I might use this for the work I want to do right now and be ready to sell it. Ironically, one of the things I like about First Choice and Midwest (paint in my JD color) might actually work against me when I go to sell it.

I also figured if I started out cheaper maybe my downside will be diminished when it comes time to sell it. I think this will be cheaper than renting one. Besides that, I don't have to chase to the rental place to get it and feel like I need to race using it just to get it back on time. I've got to believe I can sell this for $600 or so when I'm all done with it (even in a year or two) I'll have effectively spent maybe $300 to have owned it. It's pretty tough to rent one that cheaply and have it available in your barn 24/7 until you decide you're done with it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Gary,

I've really gotten a lot of use out of my KK 60". My garden is only about 50x50', so it didn't justify the nearly $1K I spent on the tiller last year. However, I've also used it to make a 300' strip along the road frontage for some hazelnuts I put in as a screen. Then I used it to break up the ground where I put in a patio. It made the box blade work easier. And I've used it, as I described earlier, to make a strawberry bed. I also tilled three 50' strips of sod where I put in some tame blackberries. Finally, it did a good job of erasing ruts left by construction equipment during some house additions we had done. My three most used implements are the finish mower, the rear scoop (because I don't have an FEL), and the tiller.

Chuck

No worries! I'm betting you'll find a few things to do with it that you hadn't considered. I don't use the tiller as much as the other implements, but it's generally the only tool for certain jobs.

Gary, You'll find your tiller can open many six pack of beer very quickly for you. Saves time at those summer parties!!

Just noticed you're in the Fort too. I live NE and use my tractor for my business. I've 3 or 4 other pieces of equipment I want before it, but I'd like to have a 3pt tiller at some point,so the timing might be right. Let me know when you're selling it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And what dealer? My NH dealer shut down last fall.
(did you price it at TSC?)

I priced these at TSC but bought from a dealer over in OH I've known for years. I met him when I bought his wife's car probably 22-23 years ago and never thought I'd ever need anything like this. I guess it pays to keep in touch with people. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just so you know, your New Holland dealer (the individual owner, not the dealership) is still around servicing New Holland equipment. His forte' was always the service/shop end of the business, anyhow. You can find him just down West Coliseum past the light at Goshen/US30-33 on your left. He's working for Southeastern Equipment, the new New Holland franchise here.

I hope this helps you out. I always like them and even tried to buy a used Deere from them just before they closed. If you want any Woods attachments (their old implement franchise), you can find those out at East Allen Equipment in Woodburn. Nice folks out there, too. They just made me a great price on an I-Match for my Deere. The salesman actually misquoted it but agreed to stand by his word so I'm going to get my parts for my 100 hour service out there just to show how much I appreciate that way of doing business. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Besides, I'd rather drive to Woodburn than deal with the 'M' people who have the Green franchise here. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
